France, Peru Issue Call for Action on Climate Change and Decent Work [viewed]

france-peru26 June 2015: François Rebsamen, Minister of Labor, Employment, Vocational Training and Social Dialogue, France, and Luis Enrique Chávez Basagoitia, Permanent Representative of Peru to the UN in Geneva, signed a Joint Call on Climate Change and Decent Work. The Joint Call encourages Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to better integrate decent work dimensions into the fight against climate change, both in negotiations towards a new climate agreement, and in formulating and implementing national policies.

US, China Cooperate on CCS, Energy Efficiency and Clean Energy [viewed]

united_nations-china24 June 2015: The US and China have announced cooperation on two new carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects as part of ongoing climate change cooperation being undertaken by the US-China Climate Change Working Group (CCWG). The two projects and a number of other plans for further cooperation on climate change mitigation were announced during a series of high-level climate change events held between the two governments in Washington DC, US, from 22-23 June 2015.

G7 Schloss Elmau Declaration Affirms Copenhagen Accord on US$100 Billion for Climate [viewed]

G7 Germany8 June 2015: G7 leaders issued a wide-ranging outcome document, the Schloss Elmau Declaration, at the close of their two-day meeting in Germany, in which they affirmed the 2009 Copenhagen Accord agreement to raise US$100 billion in annual climate financing from public and private sources, committed to make the Green Climate Fund fully operational in 2015, and promised action on the post-2015 sustainable development goals (SDGs), resource efficiency, marine litter and renewable energy.

Canada, Mexico, US Partner on Climate Change and Energy [viewed]

Global Ocean Commission Discusses Rescue Package for the Global Ocean [viewed]

iisdrs_goc18 May 2015: The 5th Meeting of the Global Ocean Commission (GOC 5) discussed the outcome of the GOC report, titled ‘From Decline to Recovery: A Rescue Package for the Global Ocean.' Twelve high-level Commissioners, including former Heads of State, and ministers and leaders in the private sector and of international organizations, met on 17 May 2015 in New York, US, to: update Commissioners on progress and developments since the report's release; solicit input into the proposed strategy contained in the report; and discuss ways by which a Global Ocean Accountability Board (GOAB – working title) could be established and managed once the Commission ceases to exist at the end of 2015.

India, China Express Support for Successful Paris Climate Conference [viewed]

india_china15 May 2015: China and India published a joint statement on climate change in which the two major economies express their full support for the success of the Paris UN Climate Change Conference, to be held in December 2015. The statement was issued during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to China, during which he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang.
