Event: Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum and Sixth Ministerial Meeting [viewed]

The sixth Ministerial Meeting of the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF) will provide policy and technical direction to the organization. The Ministerial is the highest decision-making body of the Forum, which is an international climate change initiative focused on developing cost-effective technologies for the separation and capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) for its transport and long-term safe storage. The initiative focuses on breaking down technical, economic and environmental barriers to improving CO2 capture and sequestration (CCS) technologies. It further promotes awareness and champions legal, regulatory, financial and institutional environments conducive to such technologies.

Event: G20 Development Working Group Meeting [viewed]

The Group of 20 (G20) Development Working Group (DWG) will hold its second meeting of 2015 in support of the Turkish Presidency's priority of "buttressing sustainability". The Turkish Presidency of the G20 is placing development at the center of its 2015 agenda for the G20. The DWG was established in 2010 under the Korean Presidency of the G20 and is responsible for implementing the G20 Development Agenda and reporting progress to the Sherpas. Under its pillar of buttressing sustainability, the Turkish Presidency is also focusing on climate change finance and energy.

African Workshop Builds Capacity on National GHG Inventories [viewed]

MRV27 March 2015: The Third African Regional Workshop, titled ‘Technical Training on National Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventories and Developing GHG Reporting Programmes' and hosted by the International Partnership on Mitigation and Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV), brought together participants from Angola, Egypt, the Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Swaziland, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Event: First Global Methane Initiative Workshop and Exhibition in the Middle East [viewed]

The Saudi Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is hosting this Global Methane Initiative (GMI) workshop to disseminate technical information, present profit-generating technologies and share best practices that cost-effectively reduce methane emissions. Saudi Arabia is a member of the GMI, which is an international public-private initiative that advances cost-effective, near-term methane abatement and recovery and use of methane as a clean energy source in the agricultural, coal mine, municipal solid waste, oil and gas, and wastewater sectors. The event is being organized in cooperation with Saudi Aramco, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the UN Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC).

Event: G7 Summit [viewed]

In addition to standing agenda items on the global economy and foreign, security and development policy, the heads of state and government of the Group of Seven (G7) will consider: protection of the marine environment, marine governance and resource efficiency; antibiotic resistance, neglected and poverty-related diseases, and Ebola; retail and supply chain standards; and empowering self-employed women and women in vocational training. On development policy, the G7 will address in particular the post-2015 development agenda, as well as other conferences taking place in 2015, such as the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC. The Group will also continue its work on the Rome G7 Energy Initiative for Energy Security. On the second day of the Summit, G7 leaders will hold a dialogue with leaders from African nations. The G7 members are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US.

Event: Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas Second Ministerial Meeting [viewed]

The second Ministerial Meeting of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) will take place from 25-26 May 2015 in Mexico. The meeting will provide a space for dialogue among the ECPA Governments to enhance regional cooperation on energy and climate change issues. Technical discussions will take place on 25 May, followed by the ECPA Ministrial Session on 26 May. Preparations for the second Ministerial Meeting have been made through four sub-regional preparatory meetings in 2014. The Ministerial Meeting will be followed by the Sixth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM6), from 27-28 May, also hosted by the Government of Mexico in Merida.

G20 Energy Efficiency Finance Task Group Holds Inaugural Meeting [viewed]

g20-turkey13 March 2015: During the first working session of the Group of 20 (G20) Energy Efficiency Finance Task Group (EEFTG), participants focused on enhancing understanding of the participating economies' challenges in increasing flows of energy efficiency finance and on potential opportunities for international cooperation in this area. The Task Group, coordinated by the International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC), was among the six work streams announced at the G20 Leaders' Summit in November 2014.

Event: Sixth Petersberg Climate Dialogue [viewed]

The Dialogue is hosted by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB). Originally an initiative of Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, the first Dialogue was held in May 2010 as a follow-up to the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) and in preparation for COP 16. Representatives from all regions of the world gather at the Dialogue for informal discussions in support of the UNFCCC negotiating process. The Dialogues are chaired by Germany and the president of the upcoming COP (Mexico in 2010; South Africa in 2011; Qatar in 2012; Poland in 2013; Peru in 2014; and France in 2015).

Event: Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate (MEF) [viewed]

The first meeting of the MEF in 2015 is tentatively scheduled for 19-20 April 2015. The MEF intends to convene four times in 2015. The Forum, launched in 2009 by US President Barack Obama, is aimed at facilitating candid dialogue among major emitting countries, both developed and developing, to garner the political leadership needed to advance efforts against climate change. The 17 major economies participating are: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the EU, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russian Federation, South Africa, the UK and the US.

AMCEN Declaration Urges Action on Climate Change, Illegal Wildlife Trade, Green Economy [viewed]

African Ministerial Conference on Environment (AMCEN)6 March 2015: African ministers called for adaptation-mitigation parity in the 2015 climate agreement at the 15th session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN). Ministers also supported measures to develop a common wildlife strategy, enhance natural resources management, ensure an inclusive green economy and support the continent's poverty eradication and sustainable development efforts.
