Event: International Conference on Climate, Water and Policy [viewed]

This Conference will bring together climate scientists, water resource managers and other specialists to discuss the impacts of climate change on water resources across four categories: climate variability impacts on water availability and floods at short term to seasonal time scales; climate change and variability impacts on water security and flood damage at decadal and inter decadal time scales; dissemination of probabilistic climate and water information for operational planning and decision making; and building international cooperation and policy coordination for adaptation to climate change.

Event: Cool Buildings and Communities Conference [viewed]

This conference, which is co-hosted by the Global Superior Energy Performance Partnership (GSEP) and the Global Cool Cities Alliance, will bring together government officials, industry representatives, and green building and sustainability experts. The conference aims to launch a new non-profit organization focused on deploying cool, efficient policies and technologies, and launch a new network of global cities that are committed to reducing urban heat to promote sustainability. In conjunction with the conference the Cool Roofs and Pavements Working Group of GSEP is organizing a workshop during which member governments can update the Working Group on their initiatives, plan for the 4th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM4) meeting, and interact with other stakeholders to disucss supporting Working Group activities.

Colombia and Stanford University Partner on Forest Carbon Monitoring in the Amazon [viewed]

25 July 2012: The Government of Colombia and Stanford University's Carnegie Institution have demonstrated the ability to measure carbon stocks using a combination of airborne Light Detection and Ranging technology (LiDAR) and a satellite image analysis technology called CLASlite to produce carbon maps. The technology aims to contribute to operationalize REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, and the role of conservation, sustainable use of forests and enhancement of carbon stock).

Climate and Clean Air Coalition Welcomes Four New Partners [viewed]

25 July 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has reported that the Governments of Denmark, Finland and Jordan have joined the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC). In addition, the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) has become the first research institute to become a Coalition partner.

Caribbean Countries Renew CCRIF Disaster Risk Policies, Get Rebate for 2011-12 [viewed]

5 June 2012: The Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF) announced that all 16 member governments have renewed their hurricane and earthquake insurance for the 2012-2013 policy year, and that the Facility has provided them with a 25% rebate on their 2011-2012 policy year premium because none of their policies had been triggered.
