This expert consultation is being organized by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research's (CGIAR) Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security Program (CCAFS), the Asia Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions, as well as the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The workshop will: review best practices and technologies for climate smart agriculture; review the latest knowledge regarding the impact of climate change on agriculture; and prioritize research and development.

23 February 2012: At the 35th session of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announced seven new grants to agriculture totaling $200 million, including the $21 million Tropical Legumes II project and the $33 million Drought Tolerant Maize for Africa project.

22 February 2012: A group of 23 countries meeting in Moscow, Russian Federation, adopted the Joint Declaration of the Moscow Meeting on Inclusion of International Civil Aviation in the EU-ETS, which outlines the participants' shared position that the EU and its Member States must cease application of the Directive 2008/101/EC to airlines and aircraft operators registered in third States. Under the Directive, international civil aviation was included in the EU-Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) as of 1 January 2012.

The Stockholm+40 Partnership Form for Sustainable Development will be held in Stockholm from 23-25 April 2012, in commemoration of the UN Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm in 1972. Stockholm+40 aims to foster innovative ideas and creative processes to create a platform for dialogue on sustainable innovations, sustainable production and sustainable lifestyles. Stockholm+40 will include the first meeting of the the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to reduce Short-lived Climate Pollutants from 23-24 April, with both Ministerial and Working Group sessions. In addition, a major scientific seminar on Short-Lived Climate Pollutants will be held during these days. The plans for Stockholm+40 focusing on the Short-Lived Climate Pollutants events will be presented.
