CIFOR Analyzes Challenges to REDD+ in Six Countries [viewed]

CIFORApril 2014: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) has released a report analyzing the implementation of REDD+ in six countries. 'The challenges of establishing REDD+ on the ground' covers 23 sub-national programmes, concluding that the greatest challenges facing REDD+ implementation are inadequate economic incentives coupled with insecure land tenure and use rights.

IFPRI Paper Outlines Agricultural Strategies for Coping with Climate Change [viewed]

ifpri-fao-cgiarApril 2014: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) released a discussion paper that identifies climate adaptation strategies for agricultural systems, with the aim of achieving food security and reducing poverty. The paper discusses how to transform crop, fisheries, forests and livestock systems under a changing climate and identifies ways the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and CGIAR can support such changes.

Event: Fifth Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction [viewed]

The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction - Regional Office for Africa (UNISDR AF), the African Union (AU), and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will bring together African Governments, regional intergovernmental organizations, civil society representatives, members of academic institutions, local governments, private sector organizations, the media, and youth at the Fifth Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in Abuja, Nigeria. The meeting is expected to result in an African position on a Post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction (DRR) in the context of the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Event: World Green Economy Summit 2014 [viewed]

The World Green Economy Summit 2014 (WGES) is an initiative of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and will be held under the leadership of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), in conjunction with the water, energy and environment technologies exhibition 'WETEX 2014'. Summit partners include the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Global Energy Initiative, the CEO Platform for Green Growth in the Middle East and North Africa, and the Clean Energy Business Council. WGES is organized around the theme 'Global Partnerships, Sustainable Future'. It will constitute the first green economy summit in the Middle East and North Africa region, and will link up to the global efforts in securing a climate agreement in 2015 at UNFCCC COP 21.

4th European Union EU-Africa Summit4 April 2014: Delegates at the 4th European Union (EU)-Africa Summit adopted a Declaration that outlines commitments on peace and security, prosperity and people, including action on climate change.
