Pacific Partnerships Meeting Focuses on Gender, Climate Change [viewed]

EC Awards €1 Billion to Demonstrate Low-Carbon Technologies [viewed]

European Union8 July 2014: The European Commission (EC) has announced the results of the second call for proposals under the New Entrants' Reserve 300 programme (NER 300), which is funded from the sale of 300 million emission allowances. The EC awarded one billion euro funding to 19 renewable energy projects for demonstration activities. A carbon capture and storage (CCS) project was selected for the first time under the programme.

IEA Calls for Curbing Inefficiencies in Networked Devices [viewed]

IEA2 July 2014: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released a report detailing the energetic and monetary losses associated with the use of 14 billion networked devices in 2013. 'More Data, Less Energy: Making Network Standby More Efficient in Billions of Connected Devices' finds that inefficient technology in these devices is responsible for wasting approximately US$80 billion. It suggests solutions and a path forward as demand for online electronic devices grows worldwide.

G-77/China, Others Hold Side Events at First UNEA [viewed]

unea27 June 2014: The 50th Anniversary of the Group of 77 and China (G-77/China) was commemorated during the first meeting of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA), which took place in Nairobi, Kenya, from 23-27 June 2014. The commemoration was one of over 40 UNEA side events, which also included discussions on air quality in African cities, sustainable consumption and production (SCP), sound management of chemicals and waste, illegal trade in wildlife, and green and decent jobs.

GGKP Announces Green Growth Publications [viewed]

green-growth-plataform1 July 2014: The Green Growth Best Practices Initiative (GGBP) has published the first comprehensive global assessment of lessons and good practices in green growth planning, as highlighted in the Global Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) Knowledge Update. The assessment report, titled 'Green Growth in Practice: Lessons from Country Experiences,' consists of evaluations of green growth programs around the world, and was written by 75 authors engaged by the GGBP initiative.

World Bank, IDB, GEF, EIB, EBRD, CIF, ADB, AFDB1 July 2014: During the month of June, the World Bank, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Climate Investment Funds (CIF), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) undertook activities and approved funding for sustainable energy projects in various countries, including: Kazakhstan, Moldova, Ukraine, Slovakia, Sweden, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Japan and South Africa.

SBSTTA-18 Adopts Recommendations on Scientific Issues Related to Aichi Targets Implementation [viewed]

Chair-Hem-Pande28 June 2014: The 18th meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) addressed a series of items related to the scientific base required for the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and its Aichi biodiversity targets, including the fourth edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO-4), marine- and climate-related issues, and invasive alien species (IAS).

Event: Alliance for Climate-Smart Agriculture - Global Conference [viewed]

This meeting will serve as the final Global Conference in preparation for the launch of the Alliance for Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) at the UN Secretary-General's Climate Summit in September 2014. The Conference will build on the outcomes resulting from a series of consultations that are facilitating the creation of the CSA Alliance. The Conference will be hosted by the Government of the Netherlands and core partners.
