14 March 2013: The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the Clean Energy Ministerial's (CEM) Super-efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) initiative have begun implementing activities under a partnership to develop a regional system of energy efficiency standards and labels for appliances.
19 March 2013: A report published by the International Energy Agency (IEA) for the Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI) indicates the global fuel economy improvement rate for light duty vehicles is lower than the rate needed to reach the long-term GFEI target.
19 March 2013: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has reported that it is working with the Government of Kiribati to support the development of a joint national action plan for climate change and disaster risk management.
The Fifth Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD V) is being convened under the theme "Hand in Hand for a More Dynamic Africa". Discussions are expected to be focused around four main topics: economic growth; achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); consolidation of peace/ good governance; and climate change. TICAD V is organized by Government of Japan, the UN Office of the Special Advisor to Africa, the World Bank, and the African Union (AU).
15 March 2013: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has released a discussion paper, titled "How Are Farmers Adapting to Climate Change in Vietnam?" which highlights concern over climate change impacts on agriculture in Viet Nam, particularly rice, due to its sensitivity to temperature and water conditions.
15 March 2013: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has announced that the Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change (PACC) project, jointly funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), is making gender a key consideration in its efforts to build resilience to climate change in Pacific island countries.
14 March 2013: The European Environment Agency (EEA) has released a technical report that provides an overview on the state of knowledge on the impact of international shipping in European waters on air quality and climate change. The report calls for addressing both air pollution and greenhouse gases (GHGs) in an integrated manner.
The second meeting of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is exepected to take place in late 2013.
March 2013: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published the third review of Italy's environmental performance, including progress towards a green low-carbon economy and international commitments. The Environmental Performance Review (EPR) presents 29 recommendations on how performance could be improved.
March 2013: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has released a report titled “An economic analysis of ecosystem-based adaptation and engineering options for climate change adaptation in Lami Town, Fiji.” Building on a vulnerability and adaptation assessment of Lami Town, the report presents a cost-benefit analysis of four adaptation scenarios.
