Event: Second Science with Africa Conference: Science, Innovation and Entrepreneurship [viewed]

This Conference is organized by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the African Union Commission (AUC), and aims to explore policies, measures and mechanisms for promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in areas such as agriculture, ICTs, health, infrastructure, intellectual property and technology transfer, green science and climate change. A number of initiatives will be launched during the Conference, including the African Technology Development and Transfer Network, African Science to Business Challenge, the African Science Technology and Innovation Fund and African Science Technology and Innovation Framework. In addition, the Conference features a number of fora and workshops, such as the Innovation Investment Forum, Women and Innovation Roundtable, Science Innovation and Communication Workshop, Patent Fair and the Water Quality Report.

IEA Releases Brief on Benefits of Reducing Fossil Fuel Subsidies [viewed]

8 June 2010: Following the G-20 Finance Ministers and Central Governors' Meeting on 4-5 June 2010, in Busan, Republic of Korea, on the implementation of the G-20 Pittsburgh mandate to phase out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has published a brief on fossil fuel subsidies based on data from 37 countries representing over 95% of global fossil fuel subsidization.

G-20 Continues Discussion of Fossil Fuel Subsidies [viewed]

5 June 2010: The Meeting of Finance Ministers of major advanced and emerging economies and Central Bank Governors (G-20), which convened in Busan, Republic of Korea, on 5 June 2010, welcomed the strategies and timetables provided by many G-20 members for rationalizing and phasing out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies that encourage wasteful consumption.

Event: Seventh African Development Forum on Climate Change and Development [viewed]

The Seventh African Development Forum (ADF VII) on Climate Change and Development is being convened by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Development Bank (AfDB). The overall objective of the Forum is to raise awareness and mobilize effective commitment and actions on the part of all stakeholders and partners at all levels to effectively mainstream climate change concerns into development policies, strategies, programmes and practices in Africa. The Forum also aims to strengthen Africa's participation in international climate change negotiations with a view to ensuring adequate reflection of the continent's concerns and priorities in a post-2012 international climate change regime.
