UN, CARICOM Discuss Sustainable Development, Assistance Coordination and Climate Change and Security [viewed]

Event: Second Latin American and Caribbean Dialogue on Climate Finance in Latin America and the Caribbean [viewed]

The Second Dialogue is organized by the Government of El Salvador, with support from the EU through its EUROCLIMA programme, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE), the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and among others. Over 125 participants will attend from 20 Latin American and Caribbean Governments and 15 bilateral and multilateral agencies, civil society organizations and academia, along with international climate finance experts and climate finance experts from Asia-Pacific and Africa. The Second Dialogue is to discuss: climate finance mechanisms and instruments; inter-institutional coordination on climate finance; potential of the private sector for climate finance; and assessing the impact of climate change on public expenditures. The Dialogue will be followed on 31 July by a meeting of the regional coordinators of EUROCLIMA.

IWMI Examines Glacier Systems and Snow Cover in Asian River Basins [viewed]

IWMI logo8 July 2013: The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) has released a report, titled 'Glacier Systems and Seasonal Snow Cover in Six Major Asian River Basins: Hydrological Role under Changing Climate.' The report assesses the hydrological role of the meltwater resources in the Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra, Syr Darya, Amu Darya and Mekong river basins.

IRENA Report Highlights Disparate Results of Science Assessing Biomass Potential in Africa [viewed]

IRENA1 August 2013: A new report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and German Biomass Research Centre (DBFZ) provides a comparative review of science on biomass resources in Africa, finding it impossible to offer a concrete assessment or figure on biomass availability due to the magnitude of differences in biomass potential reported in the literature.

CIFOR Database Provides Insights into Forest Carbon Pools [viewed]

CIFOR1 August 2013: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) has released an online portal to share measurements of forest carbon pools globally. At present, the site includes data from 16 locations in seven countries in Asia and Central America.
