EU Commission Prepares for Third Phase of EU ETS [viewed]

9 July 2010: The European Commission has adopted a decision determining for the first time a cap on the number of emission allowances that will be available under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) in 2013, the beginning of the third phase of the System covering the 2013-2020 trading period. It also launched a tool to estimate fuel consumption by small aircraft operators as part of their compliance with the EU ETS.

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Centre Opens in West Africa [viewed]

6 July 2010: A new regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) opened in Praia, Cape Verde, on 6 July. The Centre is supported by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Governments of Austria, Cape Verde and Spain, as well as through a special partnership between Brazil and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Event: IEA Workshop on Sustainable Feedstock Supply for Bioenergy and Biofuels [viewed]

In preparation for two bioenergy reports in its Technology Roadmap series, the International Energy Agency (IEA) is holding a workshop on bioenergy and biofuels feedstocks relating specifically to biomass and land availability, international biomass trade, supply costs and sustainability-related topics. The workshop's sessions will focus, inter alia, on assessing biomass potential and identifying knowledge gaps, identifying steps necessary to ensure sustainability of supply, and furthering public-private-partnerships and international cooperation on ensuring sustainable production.

Event: 10th Annual Workshop on Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading [viewed]

The International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) are hosting the 10th Annual Workshop on Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading.
