16 January 2013: Energy ministers and senior government officials from South American and Arab countries (ASPA) have adopted the Abu Dhabi Declaration on enhanced cooperation at the bi-regional mechanism's inaugural meeting on energy.
17 January 2013: The Abu Dhabi International Renewable Energy Conference (ADIREC) convened government, business, and civil society representatives from more than 150 countries to discuss the future of innovation and finance for renewable energy. The conference was hosted by the Sixth World Future Energy Summit (WFES) from 15-17 January, 2013, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
18 January 2013: The UN Office for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) and the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States (GCC) co-hosted a regional workshop on disaster risk reduction (DRR), which heard calls for stronger commitments in the Gulf region towards the development of a DRR strategy.
14 January 2013: The third session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly convened on 13-14 January in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), to discuss IRENA's work programme and budget for 2013, medium-term strategy, progress on programmatic activities, and implementation of policies on ethics, conflicts of interest, and the secondment of personnel.
14 January 2013: At the third session of the IRENA Assembly, which took place from 13-14 January 2013, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), IRENA released new publications on the future of renewable energy in Africa and the increasing cost-competitiveness of renewable energy, and launched a global roadmap to doubling the share of renewable energy to 30% by the year 2030.
14 January 2013: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has published a press release highlighting dynamics in Asia that will affect global energy trade over the next five years, as economies in the region expand and consequently energy demand rises. It also outlines co-operation with IEA partner countries in Asia aimed at addressing these challenges.
December 2012: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published an analysis of Greater Copenhagen, Denmark, on measuring the potential of local green growth. The analysis makes ten recommendations aimed at stimulating green innovation and competitiveness, and financing innovation and developing “knowledge intensive green activities.”
9 January 2013: The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) will fund 28 new low-carbon projects aiming to scale up renewable energy and energy efficient solutions in key emerging markets and selected developing countries in Africa and Asia.
