Event: Pre-UNFCCC COP 17 African Energy Ministers Conference [viewed]

Hosted by the Government of South Africa and endorsed by the African Union (AU), this conference seeks to provide input into the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The meeting will also work towards, inter alia, the development of a Sustainable Energy Access Road Map and a Joint Communique. Participants are also expected to address: mitigation; adaptation; regional interconnectivity; the scaling up of renewables; energy efficiency; and financing possibilities for sustainable options for increasing clean energy access in Africa.

Event: IEA's 11th Annual Workshop on Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading Workshop [viewed]

The International Energy Agency's (IEA) Emissions Trading Workshop focuses on developments in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions trading around the world at the international, national and sub-national levels, including: scaled-up and new market mechanisms; Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and sectoral crediting policies; monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV); and international GHG accounting and second-best trading programmes. Participation is by invitation only, with representatives from government, business and independent research organizations expected to attend.

This symposium will seek to move the current electric vehicle debate forward and guide participants through the challenges that lie ahead in the development of a standardized European electric vehicle market, such as Europe-wide charging and electricity infrastructure standardization. The symposium will also consider the implications for city planners of an expanded market-share for electric vehicles, as well as ongoing research and development advances, EU subsidies and improvements to supply from the power grid.
