IEA Report on Energy Policy of Slovak Republic Calls for Regional Cooperation on Energy Security [viewed]

IEA6 February 2012: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has published a report entitled “Energy Policies of IEA Countries – Slovak Republic Review,” which lauds Slovakia's efforts on energy efficiency, and notes the essential role of greater regional cooperation, particularly in gas and electricity interconnections, in enhancing energy security and market competition for the region as a whole.

Event: ClimDev-Africa High-Level Roundtable [viewed]

This roundtable will focus on mobilizing resources for the ClimDev-Africa Special Fund, which was established to pool resources and finance demand-driven projects in Africa that aim to generate and disseminate climate information at all levels. ClimDev-Africa is a joint strategic initiative of the African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Union Commission (AUC) and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). These same institutions are hosting the event with host, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

Event: UNCTAD Workshop on Corporate Climate Change Reporting [viewed]

This workshop is organized by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Development and Co-operation (OECD), the Climate Disclosure Standards Board (CDSB) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). It aims to share information on, and compare frameworks for, corporate reporting on climate-change related information and climate-change disclosure. The event will focus on: understanding policies, initiatives and practices leading to demand for and supply of climate-change related information; problems related to the lack of consistency among climate-change disclosure systems and assessing benefits of greater consistency; and stimulating further discussions on enhancing consistency. The event will provide inputs to a joint UNCTAD, OECD, CDSB, GRI report to be launched prior to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

European Finance Ministers Adopt Conclusions on Durban Follow-up [viewed]

EU21 February 2012: During the Council meeting on Economic and Financial Affairs, European Finance Ministers adopted conclusions on "Climate Finance – Follow-up to the Durban Conference," which welcome the approval of the governing instrument for the Green Climate Fund (GCF) at the Durban Climate Change Conference, the work programme on long-term finance, and the decision on financing for REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries).
