Global Climate Change Alliance Holds First Pacific Meeting [viewed]

5 June 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has reported that the Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA): Pacific Small Island States project held its first regional steering committee meeting in Suva, Fiji, from 28–29 May 2012. GCCA is a global EU-supported initiative aimed at strengthening dialogue and cooperation on climate change in developing countries most vulnerable to climate change.

SPC Provides GIS Training for Monitoring Climate Change, Risks for Agriculture and Forestry [viewed]

1 June 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) convened a training session and consultation with Fiji's Ministry of Primary Industries, as well as agriculture and forestry personnel, on spatial information needs to inform decision making. The session covered information and best practices in applying Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to help identify and monitor climate change and disaster risks in the agriculture and forestry sectors.

CIFOR Report Analyzes Land Use Impacts of EU's Biofuel Policy [viewed]

4 June 2012: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) has released a report titled "Transformations in EU biofuels markets under the Renewable Energy Directive and the implications for land use, trade and forests," which examines the EU's biofuel policy, its implications for EU and international biofuel markets, as well as its impacts on direct and indirect land use change, international trade and forest conservation.

IICA Forwards Food Security Recommendations to OAS General Assembly [viewed]

1 June 2012: The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) has submitted a report on food security with strategy recommendations as an input to the 42nd OAS General Assembly. The report was developed by IICA at the request of its parent body, the Organization of American States (OAS).

SPC Announces Australian Funding for Climate Change Adaptation and Education in the Pacific [viewed]

28 May 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has reported on the signing of grant agreements worth AUD4.44 million with the Government of Australia. The funds will support climate change adaptation activities, as well as an education assessment aimed at improving numeracy and literacy.

CCAD Holds Training Workshops on Water and Climate Change [viewed]

31 May 2012: The Central American Commission on Environment and Development (CCAD) recently organized workshops on water and climate change adaptation in El Salvador and Honduras. The objective of both workshops was to present and discuss tools, methodologies, issues and capacities needed to develop the integrated water resources management (IWRM), with special attention to adaptation to climate change.
