UNECE to Hold Experts Meeting on Cleaner Electricity and CCS [viewed]

UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) November 2008: The Second Session of the UN Economic

Commission for Europe (UNECE) Ad Hoc Group of Experts on Cleaner Electricity

Production from Coal and Other Fossil Fuels will be held on 17-18 November

2008, in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting is taking place in the framework of

the growing world demand for electricity and the push for more environmentally

sustainable power generation, which are projected to require massive

investments in the coming years.

EC Announces Communication on Deforestation and Climate Change [viewed]

7 November 2008: At the 44th session of the International

Tropical Timber Council and the Associated Sessions of the four Committees

(Finance and Administration, Economic Information and Market Intelligence,

Forest Industry, and Reforestation and Forest Management), the European

Commission (EC) announced a communication on deforestation and climate change,

with the goal of informing the EU position at the upcoming climate change

negotiations in Poznan, Poland.

UN Secretary-General Urges EU to Complete Energy and Climate Package, Addresses Financial and Climate Crises [viewed]

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon 22 October 2008: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has

addressed the climate and financial crises in a number of meetings and

statements in the past two days. He has sent letters to the heads of the EU

states, encouraging the EU to conclude its energy and climate package by the

end of 2008, in order to provide a positive signal to the international

community in its negotiations on emission reduction commitments for the

post-2012 period.
