Event: GCCA's Second Global Policy Event [viewed]

The second global event of the Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA) will bring together development and climate change practitioners with those responsible for negotiating international agreements in the context of the UNFCCC. Presentations will address, inter alia, climate policies at European and international levels; Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs); Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDs); and effectiveness of climate finance. The GCCA was launched in 2007 by the European Commission to strengthen dialogue and cooperation on climate change between the EU and developing countries most vulnerable to climate change, in particular Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and small island developing States (SIDS), which are hardest hit by the adverse effects of climate change.

Event: Second Latin American and Caribbean Dialogue on Climate Finance in Latin America and the Caribbean [viewed]

The Second Dialogue is organized by the Government of El Salvador, with support from the EU through its EUROCLIMA programme, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE), the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and among others. Over 125 participants will attend from 20 Latin American and Caribbean Governments and 15 bilateral and multilateral agencies, civil society organizations and academia, along with international climate finance experts and climate finance experts from Asia-Pacific and Africa. The Second Dialogue is to discuss: climate finance mechanisms and instruments; inter-institutional coordination on climate finance; potential of the private sector for climate finance; and assessing the impact of climate change on public expenditures. The Dialogue will be followed on 31 July by a meeting of the regional coordinators of EUROCLIMA.

UNECE, OSCE Support Climate Change Adaptation of Dniester Basin Countries [viewed]

eu-osce-unece10 July 2013: A project of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) under the Environment and Security Initiative (ENVSEC) will assist Moldova and Ukraine in adapting to the effects of climate change on the transboundary Dniester River.

The 248 new projects address nature and biodiversity conservation, environmental policy and governance, climate change, and information and communication of environmental issues.

It notes the critical tradeoffs in bioenergy between land use for energy vs. agricultural crops, and the challenge associated with analyzing the environmental impacts and advantages of bioenergy.

Kiribati Receives Support to Address Climate-sensitive Health Risks [viewed]

UN-HABITAT, UNISDR Launch DRR, CCA Technical Centre for Southern Africa [viewed]

unhabitat-unisdr15 June 2013: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) launched a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Technical Centre for Southern Africa, known as 'DIMSUR.' Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique and the Comoros requested UN-HABITAT and UNISDR to facilitate the process to establish the Centre, which aims to reduce vulnerability and build community resilience in the four countries.

UNFCCC Releases SBSTA Documents for Bonn Session [viewed]

UNFCCC4 June 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a series of documents that will be discussed by the Subsidiary Body on Scientific and technical Advice (SBSTA) at its 38th session, taking place in Bonn, Germany. The documents relate to methodological issues related to the Kyoto Protocol, the new market-based mechanism, emissions from international transport, the UNFCCC reporting guidelines, high-carbon reservoirs, and a framework for various approaches.
