European Parliament Adopts Resolution on Lima Climate Change Conference [viewed]

european-parliament26 November 2014: The European Parliament adopted a resolution stating that the climate change talks being held in Lima, Peru, should pave the way for negotiators to adopt an agreement in 2015 that will limit global average temperatures to warming of less than 2°C. EEA Report Examines Costs of Industrial Air Pollution [viewed]

CCAC Agriculture Initiative Expands to Methane Emissions from Rice [viewed]

ccac-ccaf-ciat-irri31 October 2014: A research effort to reduce methane emissions from rice cultivation in Viet Nam, Bangladesh and Colombia has been launched under the Agriculture Initiative of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC). Three international research institutions, working together with rice farmers, policy makers and other partners, expect to reduce emissions by 30-50% by using an innovative irrigation method.

Conference Adopts Guadeloupe Roadmap on Biodiversity and Climate Change [viewed]

guadeloupe201430 October 2014: High-level representatives and experts from more than 40 countries, territories and independent states attending the ‘International Conference on Biodiversity and Climate Change' adopted the ‘Message from Guadeloupe' on biodiversity loss and climate change impacts in the European Union's (EU) outermost regions (ORs) and overseas countries and territories (OCTs). The message presents a five-year roadmap that addresses five priorities: building resilience to climate change; addressing biodiversity loss; developing a green and blue economy; advancing research; and facilitating access to resources.

New EU Car Fleet Emissions Performance in Line with Targets [viewed]

EEA30 October 2014: According to a report by the European Environment Agency (EEA), efficiency of passenger cars and vans in the EU has improved over the past years, and the number of electric cars, albeit still low, is increasing rapidly. The report, which presents data on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from these vehicles, finds that, on average, both passenger cars and vans sold in 2013 were already below the maximum permitted emissions per kilometer threshold set by the European Commission for 2015.
