UNFCCC Releases AWG-KP Submissions [viewed]

© UNFCCC5 August 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has also published, in addition to the three submissions contained in document (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/MISC.14), two submissions from parties (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/MISC.14/Add.1) on further views and proposals relating to a proposal for amendments to the Kyoto Protocol pursuant to its Article 3, paragraph 9, and a text on other issues outlined in document FCCC/KP/AWG/2008/8. The submissions are from Sri Lanka and Sweden on behalf of the EU.

UNECE Protocol on Pollutant Releases Set to Enter into Force [viewed]

© UNECE17 July 2009: The Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers to the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (or Aarhus Convention), is set to enter into force on 8 October 2009, following France's ratification, which was deposited with the UN Secretary-General on 10 July 2009.

UNEP and the EU to Support MEA Implementation in ACP Countries [viewed]

July 2009: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is coordinating multiple partners under a four-year multi-million euro capacity enhancement programme for implementation of Multilateral Environment Agreements (MEAs) in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries. The European Commission (EC) ACP MEAs Programme is funded by the EU and aims to support and strengthen three existing regional institutions with environmental mandates to assist ACP countries in implementing their obligations under environmental agreements.

WMO and UNDP to Strengthen Southeast Europe's Regional Capacity to Reduce Disaster Risk [viewed]

EU and Canadian Leaders Address Climate Change, the Environment and Energy Security [viewed]

© EU6 May 2009: The leaders of the EU and Canada met in Prague, Czech Republic, on 6 May 2009, for their regular summit and adopted a declaration reiterating that their priority areas include climate change and the environment, and energy security and sustainability. In the declaration, the EU and Canadian leaders expressed their commitment to continue their cooperation in the context of their High-Level Dialogue on Energy, highlighting carbon capture and storage (CCS), bioenergy, and distributed generation and smart electricity networks as priority collaboration areas.

UNFCCC Posts US Submission to AWG-LCA 6 [viewed]

© UNFCCC5 May 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the US Input to the Negotiating Text for Consideration at the Sixth Session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 6), in which it supports a Copenhagen agreed outcome that “reflects both common and differentiated elements, is pragmatic, and recognizes the diversity of countries' circumstances and opportunities,” and expresses its commitment to reaching a strong international agreement in Copenhagen. The submission contains sections on mitigation, adaptation, technology and financing.
