EU Releases New List of LIFE Programme Projects [viewed]

20 July 2012: The EU has issued a list of new projects funded by the LIFE Programme, which is the primary fiscal instrument the EU uses to fund environment and conservation projects contributing over €2.5 billion to over 3500 projects since its inception in 1992. The newly funded projects cover, inter alia: biodiversity and endangered species conservation; waste management and recycling; ecosystem and habitat conservation; water systems; adaptation to climate change; greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation; renewable energy and energy efficiency; air pollution; green transportation; soil degradation; and oceans and coasts.

Joint Investment Brings Electricity to Rural Communities in Nicaragua [viewed]

13 July 2012: Nicaragua has inaugurated a small hydropower plant to bring electricity to 3,000 people in 533 households in eight rural communities. The plant was financed and built with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Energy and Environment Partnership for Central America (EEP) and others.

EEA Highlights Increase in Sale of Fuel-Efficient Vehicles in the EU [viewed]

EEA20 June 2012: The European Environment Agency (EEA) has released a report titled "Monitoring CO2 emissions from new passenger cars in the EU: summary of data for 2011" which indicates that fuel efficiency of new vehicles increased by 3.3% in the EU from 2010-2011.
