EU Set to Meet €7.2 Billion Pledge in Fast Start Funding [viewed]

28 November 2012: The EU has reported that it is on track to deliver €7.2 billion in fast start funding by 2013 to developing countries to strengthen their resilience to climate change. According to a new publication, the EU and its member states have already mobilized €7.14 billion, amounting to almost one-third of the US$30 billion pledged by developing countries over the three years 2010-2012.

EC Proposes One-Year Deferral of EU ETS International Aviation Compliance [viewed]

20 November 2012: The European Commission (EC) presented a legislative proposal to “stop the clock” on monitoring and reporting of aviation emissions for flights into and out of Europe, by deferring for one year the requirements under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) for airlines to surrender these emission allowances. Flights within Europe will continue to be covered by the regulation.

15 November 2012: At the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council meeting on 9 November 2012, Council members agreed to form a High-level Group to provide recommendations related to the feasibility of a global market-based measure (MBM) scheme for greenhouse gas emissions from international aviation and to develop a policy Framework to guide the general application of any proposed MBM for air transport activity.

European Commission Presents Options on EUETS Reform [viewed]

14 November 2012: The European Commission has presented options for reforming the EU Emissions Trading System (EUETS) to resolve the problem of supply-demand imbalances of emission allowances.
