European Commission Publishes Kyoto Protocol Target Progress Report [viewed]

24 October 2012: The European Commission has released an annual report detailing progress in 2011 towards achieving the EU target under the Kyoto Protocol, while the European Environment Agency (EEA) has published an associated analysis of EU greenhouse gas (GHG) trends. The report on progress finds that EU GHG emissions have decreased for the 27 EU Member States by 2.5% in 2011.

UNFCCC Releases EU's Views on Transboundary Projects and CERs Global Reserve [viewed]

22 October 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a miscellaneous document on views on issues referred to in decision 10/CMP.7, paragraph 4 (FCCC/SBSTA/2012/MISC.12/Add.1). The document contains the submission by the EU on the eligibility of transboundary projects and a Global Reserve of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs).

Global Fuel Economy Initiative Launched for the African Region [viewed]

GFEI18 October 2012: Fifty participants from 20 African countries convened at UN Environment Programme (UNEP) headquarters for the Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI) regional launch in Africa. Motivated by high rates of vehicle growth in Africa, the workshop aimed to identify policy shortcomings and the need to monitor vehicle import trends as a strategy to promote fuel efficient cars.

Event: European Electric Vehicle Congress [viewed]

The Congress will bring together policy makers, industry leaders, end-users, researchers, and NGOs to discuss the policy, economic, technological, and ecological aspects of electric vehicles and clean transportation. The main theme of the conference is "Battery, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Vehicles are ready: Challenges, Opportunities and Outlook." The day before the Congress, an EU Project day is being organized to provide information on different programs, funding opportunities and funded projects supported by the European institutions.
