18 November 2008: A World Meteorological Organization (WMO) partner, the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), has launched a Web portal, known as Product Navigator, which provides a central point for online access to all its weather and climate data and dissemination services, as well as data from some other agencies.
November 2008: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risø Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development has released a publication entitled “A Reformed CDM – including new Mechanisms for Sustainable Development,” which examines and suggests ways of improving the clean development mechanism (CDM).
18 November 2008: Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of the
Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), launched the
book entitled “Sugarcane-based Bioethanol: Energy for Sustainable Development”
during a side event at an International Conference on Biofuels taking place in
São Paulo, Brazil.
17 November 2008: The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has
released the reports from recent meetings of its Methodology Panel,
Afforestation and Reforestation (A/R) Working Group, and Small Scale Working
Group (SSC WG).
17 November 2008: The UN Framework Convention on Climate
Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat issued its report on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
in industrialized countries, which finds that emissions in these countries
continue to rise.
12 November 2008: A series of studies conducted by the
International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) identify the options and
obstacles African smallholder framers face in adapting to climate change.
13 November 2008: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP)
released a report on Atmospheric Brown Clouds (ABCs) that shows that, in
addition to affecting agriculture and human health, this layer of soot and
manmade particles can both aggravate, via the absorption of sunlight, and
counteract, via the reflection of sunlight and effects on cloud formation,
climate change due to greenhouse gases.
November 2008: The UN Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the School of Geography and Environment at Oxford University, has developed a dataset of climate change country profiles for 52 developing countries.
24 October 2008: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation
and Development (OECD) has released a discussion paper entitled “What Role for
Public Finance in Climate Change Mitigation,” which considers how public
finance in developed countries can best be used to support climate change
mitigation in developing countries.
