TEEB Report Highlights the Ecosystem Services Provided by Wetlands [viewed]

1 February 13: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat (Ramsar Convention), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and partners have launched the report "The Economics of Ecosystem and Biodiversity (TEEB) for Water and Wetlands." The report urges a major shift in attitudes towards wetlands, to recognize their value in delivering water, raw materials and food, as well as their role in maintaining people's livelihoods and the sustainability of the world's economies.

IEA Releases Free iPhone and iPad App for 2012 Key World Energy Statistics [viewed]

IEA1 February 2013: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has announced the release of an updated iPhone and iPad app version of its publication "2012 Key World Energy Statistics," which includes data on supply, transformation and consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions of all major energy sources.

UN-HABITAT Highlights Urban Adaptation Challenges in Colombia [viewed]

UN-HABITATDecember 2012: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) has released a report, titled “The Impact of Climate Change on Urban Settlements in Colombia,” which finds that the poor face greater exposure to climate change. It stresses that urban adaptation policy has been neglected in Colombia, which has not mainstreamed adaptation in its national policies.

UNEP/GRID-Arendal Newsletter Reports on GEF-Funded “Blue Forests” Project [viewed]

January 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP)/GRID-Arendal Marine Programme has released the January issue of its newsletter (Marine Newsletter #1), featuring articles on: the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded demonstration project on the incorporation of carbon and other ecosystem services values into financial markets; the release of the State of the Mediterranean Marine and Coastal Environment Report; and the launch of the World Ocean Assessment website.

FAO Launches Policy Guide and Learning Event on Advancing Agroforestry [viewed]

FAO5 February 2013: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released the first in a series of working papers on agroforestry. The guide, titled "Advancing Agroforestry on the Policy Agenda," is aimed at decision makers, NGOs and government agencies to promote the integration of agroforestry into national strategies.

UN-REDD Releases Policy Brief on Safeguards [viewed]

1 February 2013: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UN-REDD) has released a report titled "Putting REDD+ Safeguards and Safeguard Information Systems Into Practice," which highlights policy considerations related to country-level safeguard systems in line with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Cancun Agreement.

Nordic Group Highlights Short-Term Climate Benefits from Cuts in Black Carbon [viewed]

4 February 2013: The Nordic Group on Climate and Air Quality (KoL) has released a report on scientific and policy developments related to black carbon, HFCs, methane, and other short-lived climate forcers (SFLCs) in Nordic countries. The report cites recent studies indicating that SLCFs exert a greater climate impact than previously believed, but also describes opportunities for immediate emissions reductions to delay a 2°C warming in global temperatures by three to four decades.
