June 2009: A report published by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), a research center of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), shows that payments for reducing emissions from deforestation or forest degradation in developing countries (REDD) could also protect orangutans, pygmy elephants, and other wildlife at risk of extinction.
May 2009: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has issued a policy brief titled “Migration, Climate Change and the Environment,” which presents key information and analysis on the interplay between migration, climate change and environmental degradation.
9 June 2009: On the sidelines of the 98th Session of the International Labour Conference, taking place from 3-19 June 2009, in Geneva, Switzerland, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Danish Government co-organized a side event on “Climate Change and the World of Work.”
6 June 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the annual status report of the annual inventory of France (FCCC/ASR/2009/FRA), Liechtenstein (FCCC/ASR/2009/LIE) and Sweden (FCCC/ASR/2009/SWE).
5 June 2009: The Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published an “Environmental Performance Review of Finland,” which notes that in 2006 Finland's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions had increased by 13% compared to 1990 levels, well above the country's Kyoto commitment of 0%.
5 June 2009: The UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has released “Towards a Low Carbon Travel and Tourism Sector,” a study developed as a result of collaboration between the UNWTO, the World Economic Forum, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and tourism and travel business leaders.
5 June 2009: A new report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) outlines key steps towards the development of a single international carbon price, including phasing out fossil fuel subsidies and expanding and linking regional carbon markets through direct linking of existing emission trading systems, scaled-up Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), use of sectoral crediting mechanisms, and incorporation of the forest sector.
June 2009: The latest policy brief in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs' (UN DESA) policy brief series, titled “Reaching a Climate Deal in Copenhagen,” examines development and burden-sharing aspects related to mitigation and adaptation that need to be considered to ensure a successful and sustainable outcome of the negotiations.
6 June 2009: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UNFCCC Secretariat, in collaboration with the Expert Group on Technology Transfer (EGTT) and the Climate Technology Initiative (CTI), launched the advance document of the Handbook for Conducting Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) for Climate Change during a side event held on 6 June 2009, at the Bonn Climate Change Talks.
4 June 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released Australia's submission to the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP), which is holding its eighth session in Bonn, Germany, until 12 June 2009 (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/MISC.13).
