Silva Mediterranea Newsletter Highlights PES and REDD Activities [viewed]

FAO21 September 2011: Silva Mediterranea, a statutory body of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) that works on forest issues in the Mediterranean region, has released the September 2011 issue of its newsletter, which reports on recent forest-related activities within the Mediterranean region, including a regional conference on payments of ecosystem services (PES) and a project on REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks).

IEA Publishes Technology Roadmap for Industrial CCS Applications [viewed]

International Energy Agency (IEA)20 September 2011: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has published a report titled “Technology Roadmap – Carbon Capture and Storage in Industrial Applications,” which indicates that carbon capture and storage (CCS) could potentially reduce carbon dioxide emissions from industrial applications by four gigatons by 2050.

UNEP Report Calls for Transition to Green Economy in Asia-Pacific [viewed]

15 September 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in partnership with the Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), IGES (Japan) and Chinese Academy of Sciences, has released a report titled “Resource Efficiency: Economics and Outlook for Asia and the Pacific,” which calls for a new “green” industrial revolution through improvements in resource efficiency.

15 September 2011: A new paper published in the journal Sustainability, authored by Richard Munang and Johnson N. Nkem and titled "Using Small-Scale Adaptation Actions to Address the Food Crisis in the Horn of Africa: Going Beyond Food Aid and Cash Transfers," showcases lessons learned from the Climate Change Adaptation and Development Programme (CC DARE), which was jointly implemented by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP).
