IEA Book Presents Methodology to Evaluate Variable Renewable Energy Potentials [viewed]

24 May 2011: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has published a book titled “Harnessing Variable Renewables: A Guide to the Balancing Challenge,” which presents a method of assessing resources needed to balance supply and demand in power systems utilizing large shares of variable renewable energy (VRE), such as solar photovoltaic, wind and tidal energy.

OECD/IEA Paper Suggests Pathways Forward for MRV [viewed]

May 2011: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and International Energy Agency (IEA) have published a working paper titled “Monitoring and Tracking Long-Term Finance to Support Climate Action,” which discusses and proposes a method for beginning to overcome shortcomings of current monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) of climate finance under the UNFCCC.

FAO, World Bank Release Forest Governance Framework [viewed]

23 May 2011: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the World Bank's Program on Forests (PROFOR) have released a forest governance guidance framework with applications for developing countries' efforts for REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation  in developing countries, as well as conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks), titled "Framework for Assessing and Monitoring Forest Governance."

UNFCCC Publishes Scenario Note for the Second Part of AWG-KP 16 [viewed]

23 May 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the scenario note (FCCC/KP/AWG/2011/3) for the second part of the 16th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 16), which aims to share with delegations reflections on the first part of the 16th session and to inform them of the proposed organization of work for the second part.

UNDP Launches Guidebook on Catalyzing Climate Finance [viewed]

19 May 2011: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has launched a publication titled "Catalyzing Climate Finance: A Guidebook on Policy and Financing Options to Support Green, Low-emission, Climate-resilient Development," which aims to enable countries to better assess the level and nature of assistance they will require to catalyze climate capital based on their national, regional and local circumstances.

UNFCCC Releases Agenda for AWG-LCA 14 [viewed]

19 May 11: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the annotated agenda (FCCC/AWGLCA/2011/5) for the 14th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 14). The agenda for AWG-LCA 14 was adopted by the AWG-LCA on 8 April 2011, in Bangkok, Thailand. The AWG-LCA will resume its 14th session from 7-17 June 2011, in Bonn, Germany.

UNREDD Newsletter18 May 2011: The May 2011 edition of the UN-REDD Programme Newsletter features an article on Asia Pacific and Latin America cross-regional REDD+ exchange, which highlights that delegates from Viet Nam visited Mexico and Ecuador to learn from those countries' experience of Payment for Environmental Services (PES) and community-led forest management, while Mexico and Ecuador learned from Viet Nam's experience in establishing a national REDD+ Programme.
