UNFCCC Releases ADP Report from Doha [viewed]

UNFCCC7 February 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the second part of the first session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) (FCCC/ADP/2012/3), which was held in December 2012, in Doha, Qatar. The report indicates that during the session, the ADP continued exchanges of views under a roundtable setting and agreed to hold a number of meetings during 2013, with the aim of advancing its substantive discussions on a 2015 agreement and raising ambition in the post-2012 period.

World Bank Report Reviews MENA's Water Demand and Options [viewed]

World Bank1 February 2013: A new World Bank report, titled “Renewable Energy Desalination: An Emerging Solution to Close MENA's Water Gap,” indicates that water demand in the Middle East and North of Africa (MENA) countries will quintuple by 2050. The study highlights that a water demand gap might persist even after applying all demand management options, and suggests that "new" water produced through desalination and greater investment in renewable energy are required.

ITTO, UNU Analyze REDD+ and Community Forestry in Asia [viewed]

February 2013: The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) and the UN University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) have released a report, titled "Governing the Forests: An Institutional Analysis of REDD+ and Community Forest Management in Asia." The report presents a background on REDD+, explores ways to link REDD+ to community forestry, and provides lessons learned and recommendations.

UNDP Reviews Public Expenditures for Climate Finance in the Asia-Pacific Region [viewed]

UNEP Riso Releases Coastal Hazard Assessment Tool [viewed]

6 February 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Riso has released the Coastal Hazard Wheel, a tool for coastal hazard assessment. The tool is intended to assist coastal planners and developers in assessing the hazard profile of coastal stretches under changing climatic conditions.

IEA Report Highlights Sweden's Progress Towards a Low-Carbon Economy [viewed]

IEA5 February 2013: A review of Sweden's energy policy published by the International Energy Agency (IEA) indicates that Sweden's trajectory towards a low-carbon economy is on track, although challenges remain. The review recommends that Sweden should, inter alia, develop an action plan to realize the 2030 target for achieving a fossil fuel-free vehicle fleet and increase investment in clean energy technologies, including smart grids, biofuels, and carbon capture and storage (CCS).

IEA Receives Outstanding Low-Carbon Publication Award [viewed]

IEA4 February 2013: Two International Energy Agency (IEA) reports, "Technology Roadmap: Fuel Economy of Road Vehicles" and "Policy Pathways: Improving the Fuel Economy of Road Vehicles - A policy package" have won the Outstanding Low-Carbon Publication Award. The award was presented by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP), a public-private partnership that supports the development of effective policy and the transition to low carbon vehicles and fuels sponsored the awards.

FAO, OECD Releases Workshop Report on Agricultural Adaptation to Climate Change [viewed]

February 2013: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) have released the proceedings from their joint workshop on Building Resilience for Adaptation to Climate Change in the Agriculture Sector, which was held from 23-24 April 2012, in Rome, Italy.
