15 November 2012: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), as the implementing partner for the Forest Investment Program (FIP), will provide US$15 million in financial and technical assistance to Mexico to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through reducing deforestation in five of the Mexican states with the greatest forest loss.
14 November 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Ozone Secretariat and the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO)-based International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) have have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to improve methyl bromide management. Methyl bromide is an ozone depleting substance used to prevent the spread of pests and diseases.
14 November 2012: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has invited nominations for the 2013 Land for Life Award.
31 October 2012: The Global Environment Facility's Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP) has conceded US$149,415 for the development of three projects to combat climate change in Ukraine. Implemented by the UN Development Programme (UNDP), this funding has the potential to affect 1,200 people in the Teplychne community, GEF SGP notes.
12 November 2012: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has inaugurated a Chair on Climate Science and Policy at TERI University in New Delhi, India. The UNESCO Chair aims to promote knowledge dissemination, technology development, transfer, and information sharing on climate science and on related policy issues.
12 November 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risø Centre supported the participation of 12 representatives from Pacific island countries in the Carbon Expo Australasia 2012, which took place from 7-9 November 2012, in Melbourne, Australia. According to the Risø Centre, representatives from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu attended the Expo.
8 November 2012: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has reported on exploratory discussions with a group of companies from the energy and manufacturing sectors on the impact of climate change on energy systems, and announced new initiatives to support energy systems resilience.
November 2012: The Frankfurt School - UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Collaborating Centre for Climate and Sustainable Energy convened the Sustainable Energy Finance Summer Academy in Nairobi, Kenya, from 21-26 October 2012. This year's Academy focused on sustainable energy finance in Africa.
8 November 2012: UN Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Helen Clark has announced that UNDP has joined the Climate and Clean Air Coalition. The Coalition is a partnership among governments, NGOs and international organizations that aims to tackle the challenges posed by short-lived climate pollutants, such as black carbon, hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and methane, at a global scale.
8 November 2012: The World Bank Board of Directors has approved a US$70 million credit from the International Development Association to support the Vietnam Climate Change Development Policy Operation. The policy operation supports institutional development in Viet Nam for resilience, sustainable development, and climate change response.
