20 September 2008: The fourth Meeting of the Parties (MOP)
to the African-Eurasian Waterbird Agreement (AEWA) took place from 15-19
September 2008, in Antananarivo, Madagascar. With regard to climate change, the
meeting adopted a resolution on climate change and migratory waterbirds, as
well as conservation guidelines on measures needed to help waterbirds adapt to
climate change.

17 September 2008: The World Meteorological Organization
(WMO) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) have agreed
to increase their cooperation in the development of international standards
related to meteorological and hydrological data, products and services.

11 September 2008: The EU Parliament's Industry Committee decided to support the EU Commission's target to achieve a 10% share of biofuels used in road transport by 2020, while insisting that 40% of that renewable energy must come from alternative sources not competing with food production, such as electricity and hydrogen produced from renewable sources as well as “second generation” biofuels made from waste, lingo-cellulosic biomass or algae.

4 September 2008: The 29th session of the Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) convened from 31 August to 4 September 2008, in
Geneva, Switzerland, and was attended by more than 300 participants. During the
meeting, which commemorated the IPCC's 20th anniversary, the Panel elected the
new IPCC Bureau and the Bureau of the Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas
Inventories (TFB), and reelected Rajendra Pachauri as the IPCC Chair.

Developing States (PSIDS) and co-sponsoring States are convening a discussion
on a draft UN General Assembly resolution on the threat of climate change to

3 August 2008: The fifteenth Summit meeting of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), held from 2-3 August 2008, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, concluded with the adoption of the Colombo Declaration and the Colombo Statement on Food Security. In the Declaration, entitled “Partnership for Growth for Our People,” the Heads of State and Government reiterate the need for increased regional cooperation in tackling climate change, in particular for capacity building, the development of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects, and awareness raising.

31 July 2008: The fifteenth Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned
Movement (NAM), held from 27-30 July 2008 in Tehran, Iran, concluded with the
adoption of a document in which
Ministers recognize that climate change poses serious risks and challenges,
particularly to developing countries, and call for urgent global action in
accordance with the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities.

30 July 2008: The Global Standards Organization (GSC) has
called on its members to share their views and experiences with groups addressing
information and communications technologies (ICTs) and climate change, highlighting
the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) Focus Group on ICTs and
Climate Change.

30 July 2008: The President of the UN General Assembly issued a draft outcome
document for the Monterrey Consensus Review Conference where countries would
recognize that responses to the climate change problem have “major development
implications” and “commit to respond to the additional financial requirements
that meet these new challenges with appropriate, concrete international
cooperation measures and policies.” The Review Conference, to be held in Doha,
Qatar, from November 29 to 2 December 2008, would also highlight that efforts
to address climate change should “promote increased trade in environmental
goods and not result in environmentally-based trade distortions.”

July 2008: The Ramsar Secretariat has posted the draft resolutions (DRs) that will be considered by parties for adoption at their tenth Conference of Parties (COP10), which is scheduled to take place in Changwon, Republic of Korea, from 28 October to 2008 to 4 November 2008.
