iisdrs_unff1115 May 2015: The 11th session of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF11) was held at UN headquarters in New York from 4-15 May 2015, with the High-Level Segment taking place from 13-14 May 2015. Delegates convened to discuss, inter alia, progress, challenges and the way forward for the international arrangement on forests, including reviewing the effectiveness of the international arrangement on forests (IAF), the progress towards the achievement of the global objectives on forests and the contribution of forests and the IAF to the internationally agreed development goals.

IMO MEPC 68 Adopts Environmental Provisions of Polar Code [viewed]

IMO15 May 2015: The 68th Session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted the environmental part of the Polar Code, which is the international code of safety for ships operating in waters surrounding the Earth's poles. MEPC also adopted the relevant amendments under the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) to make the Code mandatory.

Caribbean Countries Call for Effective 2015 Climate Agreement [viewed]

Declaration_of_Fort_de_France9 May 2015: Emphasizing the interdependence of the planet's ecosystems and its inhabitants, 13 Caribbean Heads of State and Government have issued a call for an effective global agreement to be agreed at the Paris Climate Change Conference in December 2015. The leaders state that climate change, with its consequences already being felt, is a strong illustration of the world's interdependence and a reminder of the need to take on collective responsibility to solve the problem together, in solidarity.

ASEAN Summit Adopts Declaration on Climate Change and Resilience [viewed]

Asean27 April 2015: The Heads of State and Government of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have signed a declaration committing to economic, social, cultural, physical and environmental measures that will reduce vulnerability to disaster and climate-related risks. Moldova, Ukraine Launch Adaptation Framework for the Dniester Basin [viewed]

UNECE23 April 2015: The Governments of Moldova and Ukraine have launched the Strategic Framework for Adaptation to Climate Change for the Dniester Basin, which will help the two countries mitigate climate change impacts, enhance transboundary cooperation and facilitate sustainable development. Having endorsed the Strategic Framework, the countries will develop an Implementation Plan, supported by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

Arctic Council Meeting Concludes Canada's Chairmanship [viewed]

Arctic Council25 April 2015: The ninth Ministerial Meeting of the Arctic Council, which marked the end of Canada's Arctic Council chairmanship (2013-2015) and the start of the US chairmanship (2015-2017), brought together ministers of the eight Arctic States and leaders of the six Permanent Participant organizations of the Arctic Council. Ministers adopted the 2015 Iqaluit Declaration, which highlights the accomplishments of the past two years and sets the stage for the upcoming US chairmanship.

GCF Board Accredits Seven Entities, Adopts Investment Framework [viewed]

green-climate-fund-new26 March 2015: At its ninth meeting, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board took a number of necessary steps toward its goal of approving funding for the first projects and programmes in October 2015. It agreed to accredit seven organizations, opening the door for them to begin developing and submitting project and programme proposals. In addition, it agreed on an initial investment framework, which will guide entities in the development of their proposals and create a transparent process for evaluating them.
