UN Statistical Commission Agrees on SDG Indicator Framework as "Practical Starting Point" [viewed]

47unsc11 March 2016: The UN Statistical Commission (UNSC) agreed, "as a practical starting point," with the global indicator framework proposed by the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs), noting that the indicators are "subject to further technical refinement." The Commission also took decisions on capacity building for national statistical systems, and climate change and governance statistics.

Preparations Underway for INDC Implementation [viewed]

Partnership on Mitigation and MRV9 March 2016: The International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV has reported that several developing countries, including Mexico and Viet Nam, have started planning for the implementation of their intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) under the UNFCCC, with support from their developed country partners. In addition, the Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) has been working closely with developing country policymakers, most recently in Latin America, to identify ways to "convert INDCs into action."

IPBES Approves Assessments on Pollinators, Scenarios and Modelling [viewed]

ipbes428 February 2016: The Fourth Plenary session of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES-4) approved summaries for policy makers (SPMs) of the Platform's first assessments on Pollination, Pollinators and Food Production, and on Scenarios and Models for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. Delegates also launched several new assessments and elected Robert Watson (UK) as the Platform's new Chair.

February 2016 Sustainable Energy Finance Update [viewed]

february2016_energy1 March 2016: During the month of February, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) and the World Bank announced sustainable energy project funding and initiatives. In addition, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and EIB released publications related to finance and the clean energy sector, and AfDB, EBRD and the World Bank reported on events highlighting sustainable energy solutions.

UNFCCC29 February 2016: A number of reports have been published by the UNFCCC Secretariat in accordance with the current transparency system of the UNFCCC. These include a status report on Japan's annual greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, two multilateral assessment (MA) summary reports, and eight summary reports on the technical analysis of the first Biennial Update Reports (BURs). In addition, several events took place, including a review period focused on Annex I Parties' Kyoto Protocol compliance and a meeting and workshop focused on capacity building for non-Annex I Parties' reporting.

Canada, Mexico and US Collaborate on Climate Change and Energy [viewed]

ICAO CAEP Recommends Emissions Standards, Lays Groundwork for Market-Based Measure [viewed]

Icao12 February 2016: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) has concluded its 10th meeting, having made progress toward a carbon dioxide (CO2) standard, a market-based measure (MBM), sustainable alternative fuels and aircraft noise, among others. At the end of the two-week meeting, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited ICAO, asking the agency to focus on its "role in implementing the two landmark achievements of 2015," namely the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement.

Gathered for the second 'Global Forum on Emergency Telecommunications (GET-2016): Saving Lives,' an international event focusing on the intersection of emergency telecommunications and climate change mitigation and adaptation, 500 participants from 90 countries adopted two global ICT initiatives aimed at enhancing disaster risk reduction (DRR).
