ESCAP Commits to Improved Regional Energy Connectivity [viewed]

24 May 2012: Asia-Pacific governments attending the 68th session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) called for inclusive and sustainable regional growth, with the aim of closing development gaps among and within Asia-Pacific countries, and setting economic progress on a greener pathway. In a series of resolutions, governments called for action to promote regional economic integration, trade and energy connectivity.

World Health Assembly Discusses Progress on Health-related MDGs [viewed]

WHO26 May 2012: The 65th session of the World Health Assembly, the supreme decision making body of the World Health Organization (WHO), endorsed a report on progress and achievements of the health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and global health goals after 2015. Member States noted that, while progress towards achieving health-related MDGs has accelerated, further action is needed to achieve the goals by 2015.

UNECE Meeting on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution Amends Gothenburg Protocol [viewed]

UNECE4 May 2012: The 30th Session of the Executive Body for the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP) adopted amendments to the 1999 Gothenburg Protocol to Abate Acidification, Eutrophication and Ground-level Ozone (Gothenburg Protocol). The amendments include national emission reduction commitments to be achieved by 2020 and beyond, and address, for the first time, particulate matter, including black carbon, a short-lived climate forcer.

It also addressed the Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), and in-depth review of the work programme on island biodiversity (PoWIB), inter alia.

IFC Launches US Green Bond for Climate-Friendly Investments in Developing Countries [viewed]
