UNGA President Circulates Amended 2030 Agenda [viewed]

post201512 August 2015: The President of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Sam Kutesa, circulated the outcome document of the UN Summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda, agreed by consensus at the conclusion of the intergovernmental negotiation process on 2 August 2015. Kutesa informed Member States that he will convene a plenary meeting of the Assembly in early September to take action on a draft resolution that will transmit the outcome document to the UNGA's 70th session for consideration and adoption during the Summit.

French, Peruvian UNFCCC COP Presidencies Release Aide-Mémoire [viewed]

france-peru31 July 2015: During an informal ministerial meeting held in preparation for the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC, ministers discussed characteristics of the anticipated Paris agreement, differentiation and ambition, according to an aide-mémoire released by the Peruvian COP 20 Presidency and incoming French COP 21 Presidency. In addition, Parties discussed next steps in the lead-up to COP 21.

2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Being Prepared for UNGA Consideration [viewed]

post20152 August 2015: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which was adopted at the conclusion of the post-2015 development agenda negotiations on 2 August 2015, contains five sections, including the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets proposed by the Open Working Group (OWG) in 2014, with several revisions for specificity and consistency with international ambition. The document for consideration by the 69th UN General Assembly (UNGA) is expected to be finalized and made available ahead of the UN summit for the adoption of the agenda, which will take place from 25-27 September 2015.

UN Finalizes 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development [viewed]

post2015-in82 August 2015: The final version of the draft post-2015 development agenda, titled ‘Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,' was adopted by acclamation at the conclusion of an informal plenary of intergovernmental negotiations. The adoption came at the end of a two-week session and concluded a seven-month process to agree on the UN's development agenda to follow up on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and seek to achieve sustainable development.

July 2015 Sustainable Energy Finance Update [viewed]

The Asian Development Bank (ADB), AfDB, the European Commission, EIB and the World Bank also released publications on financing and deploying clean energy.

CDM Approves Integrated Methodology on Electrification of Communities [viewed]

UNFCCC24 July 2015: During its 85th meeting, the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Executive Board approved an integrated CDM methodology for electrification of communities. The new methodology integrates approaches from existing methodologies. It broadens the coverage of small-scale methodologies for electrification and simplifies the monitoring procedures to reduce transaction costs without compromising environmental integrity.

iisdrs_FfD316 July 2015: The Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD3) has concluded with the adoption of the Outcome Document of the Conference, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda (AAAA). In support of the AAAA, a number of significant partnerships were launched during FfD3, including: the Addis Tax Initiative, which will support strengthening domestic tax systems; the Global Financing Facility in Support of Every Woman Every Child, which brings together countries, donors and the private sector; and the Commission on Financing Global Education.

IRENA Conference Launches Martinique Action Plan for Renewables Deployment on SIDS [viewed]

IRENA14 July 2015: A conference organized by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has launched an action plan to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy in small island developing states (SIDS). The Martinique Action Plan outlines practical steps for deploying renewable energy resources and technologies in SIDS. It also seeks to demonstrate commitment of 27 SIDS and 19 development partners to the IRENA of SIDS Lighthouses Initiative in the run-up to the 2015 UN Climate Change Conference.

BRICS to Operationalize New Development Bank, Strengthen Energy Cooperation [viewed]

brics9 July 2015: At its seventh annual summit, the BRICS group of countries (Brazil, the Russian Federation, India, China and South Africa) announced the BRICS Economic Partnership Strategy through 2020, which aims to strengthen ties in energy, high technology, agriculture, science and education. The BRICS also adopted the New Development Bank and Contingent Reserve Arrangement, with a total capacity of US$200 billion.

Climate Summit of the Americas Issues Climate Action Statement [viewed]

iisd_climate_summit9 July 2015: The Climate Summit of the Americas has issued the first-ever Pan-American Climate Action Statement leading up to the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), scheduled to take place in Paris, France, from 30 November to 11 December 2015. The Government of Ontario convened over 300 government, business and civil society leaders to foster and strengthen partnerships among jurisdictions for global climate action, and build motivation and support for carbon pricing.
