Event: AFRICEF-3 Financing Forum [viewed]

The third cycle of the Africa Forum for Clean Energy Financing (AFRICEF-3), organized by the Climate Technology Initiative Private Financing Advisory Network (CTI PFAN), and aimed at investors, will showcase ten promising clean energy investment opportunities in Africa, selected through a CTI PFAN business plan competition. Projects featured cover hydroelectric, biogas, biomass, biofuel and solar energy, waste-to-energy and energy efficiency, and are to be implemented in Egypt, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda. The CTI PFAN Africa Climate Change Investor Forum, focusing on climate change adaptation projects, will take place on 12 November at the same venue.

Event: Africa Climate Change Investor Forum [viewed]

The Africa Climate Change Investor Forum, organized by the Climate Technology Initiative Private Financing Advisory Network (CTI PFAN), and targeted primarily at investors and financiers, will provide opportunities for networking and accessing investment-ready climate change adaptation projects, and learning about the market for climate change investment and financing in Africa. The Forum, which will take place on 12 November, will comprise interactive investor panels, a business plan competition and a display of ten promising climate change investment opportunities in Africa selected by CTI PFAN. The forum will feature projects raising financing for climate change technology deployment from various sectors and from countries across Africa. The 3rd cycle of CTI PFAN's Africa Forum for Clean Energy Financing (AFRICEF-3) will take place on 13 November at the same venue.

Event: Regional Workshop: Metrology and Technology Challenges of Climate Science and Renewable Energy [viewed]

This regional event on 'Metrology and Technology Challenges of Climate Science and Renewable Energy,' coordinated by the Organization of American States (OAS), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) of the US, and the National Intitutes of Metrology of the ANDIMET (part of the Inter-American Metrology System, SIM), targets participants from industry, academia, and the public and private sectors of the member countries of the SIM. The workshop aims to contribute to: advancement of renewable energy technologies and low-carbon economic growth in the context of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA); and reduction of the region's potential contribution to climate change, while promoting economic development. The workshop will focus on identifying measurement challenges relating to climate science and renewable energy, and developing related capabilities.

African Countries Adopt Sustainable Transport Framework [viewed]

africa-sustinable-transport30 October 2014: Senior officials representing over 42 African countries have adopted a framework for a transition to sustainable transport, with a view to curbing air pollution, boosting the use of sustainable fuels and improving road safety. The roadmap aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the use of low-emission non-motorized transport, and increasing the quality of public transport and investment in clean technologies.

Asia-Pacific Experts Adopt Principles for Disaster-Related Statistics [viewed]

UNESCAP30 October 2014: The Expert Group on Disaster-Related Statistics in Asia and the Pacific, established earlier in 2014, has agreed to "core principles for establishing a common basic range of disaster-related statistics" at its first meeting. The principles are expected to move the region toward universal standards that will improve natural disaster preparedness and response.

Berlin Meeting Launches Process for GEO-6 [viewed]

3gf22 October 2014: The Fourth Global Green Growth Forum (3GF2014) explored key related questions and launched or leveraged 11 collaborative partnerships. The Forum, which brought together over 500 leaders and decision makers from governments, cities, businesses, finance and civil society, explored actions needed for promoting sustainable production and consumption for a greener economy under the theme ‘Changing Production and Consumption Patterns through Transformative Action.'

IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee Approves Polar Code Provisions [viewed]

IMO20 October 2014: The 67th session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has approved provisions of the draft International Code for Ships Operating in Polar Waters (Polar Code), and adopted draft amendments to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL). The meeting also adopted resolutions supporting the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004 (BWM Convention), and considered a greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions study, energy efficiency in ships, and issues relating to fuel consumption and quality.
