World Wetlands Day Celebrates "Wetlands For Our Future" [viewed]

Ramsar2 February 2015: The annual World Wetlands Day was celebrated on 2 February 2015, marking the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971 in Ramsar, Iran, and helping to raise public awareness of the value and importance of wetlands. Held under the theme ‘Wetlands for our future,' it sought to highlight the many ways in which we can all contribute to their conservation and restoration.

24th AU Summit Adopts Decisions on Post-2015 Negotiations, Gender Equality, Illicit Flows [viewed]

African Union (AU)31 January 2015: Participants called for women's empowerment in Africa as an important step in achieving the goals of Agenda 2063, at the 24th African Union (AU) Summit, which convened under the theme, ‘2015 Year of Women's Empowerment and Development towards Africa's Agenda 2063.' Delegates adopted the Agenda 2063 framework document and decisions on climate change, the post-2015 development agenda, trade, health and other issues. The Summit also included a presentation of the final report of the High Level Panel on Illicit Financial Flows.

UNDP, UNFPA, UNOPS Executive Board Highlights Critical Year for Sustainable Development [viewed]

undp-unfpa-unops30 January 2015: Members of the Executive Board of the UN Development Programme's (UNDP), UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) said 2015 is a critical year to reach agreement on the post-2015 development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), disaster risk reduction (DRR), financing for development (FfD) and climate change processes. The 36-member Board provides intergovernmental support to and supervision of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS activities.

Brazil, Japan Organize Informal Meeting on Further Climate Actions [viewed]

The 13th Informal Meeting on further Actions against Climate Change was attended by, among others, the Co-Chairs of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) Daniel Reifsnyder and Ahmed Djoghlaf.

ADP Co-Chairs Release February Session Scenario Note [viewed]

UNFCCC29 January 2015: The Co-Chairs of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) have released their scenario note for the eighth part of the Group's second session (ADP 2-8), to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 8-13 February 2015. In the note (ADP.2015.1.InformalNote), the Co-Chairs indicate that the session's objective will be to deliver, by the session's close, the draft negotiating text for an anticipated 2015 climate change agreement under the UNFCCC.

Event: Sixth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM6) [viewed]

The Clean Energy Ministerial's (CEM) 23 participating governments will send energy ministers and representatives to Mexico for the group's sixth meeting, to be hosted by the Government of Mexico. The meeting will assess progress achieved since the body's founding five years ago and consider the best next steps for transitioning to a global clean energy economy. According to the meeting organizers, CEM6 will be a "decision-making meeting," where the participating government ministers will decide on a plan for how the forum can be more ambitious and effective. Member governments will also have the opportunity to demonstrate how they are advancing national clean energy goals and how the CEM can contribute to a successful Paris Climate Change Conference in December 2015.

Event: Asia Pacific Resilience Innovation Summits and Expo [viewed]

The Asia Pacific Resilience Summits and Expo (APRISE2015) will feature: the seventh annual Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit and Expo; the Pacific Agriculture Innovation Summit and Showcase; the Pacific Defense Energy Summit and Showcase; and the Islands Innovation Summit and Showcase. All the events will bring together stakeholders from the business, government and technology sectors to focus on resilience. Participants will explore solutions across the "global resilience pillars of energy, agriculture, water and security" for the vanguard communities in the onset of climate change. Energy topics will include everything from microgrids, storage, grid security and defense, to bioenergy, waste and water innovations, transportation, carbon utilization and renewables. In addition to covering related energy topics, the Agriculture Summit will consider, inter alia, precision agriculture, crop and yield innovations, and aquaculture innovations. On islands, the programme will include an examination of islands' resilience needs, including disaster and resource management.

Event: G20 2015 Leaders' Summit [viewed]

The Turkish Presidency of the Group of 20 (G20) will host G20 leaders in Antalya, Turkey, for the G20 Leaders' Summit in November 2015. The G20 aims to conclude the Summit with practical outcomes on such priority areas as development, climate change, financing for climate change, trade, growth and employment.
