Major Groups Focus on Durable Partnerships for Sustainable Development [viewed]

sids.conference.iisdrs29 August 2014: The Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) pre-conference for Major Groups and other Stakeholders Forum focused on identifying durable partnerships to promote sustainable development. The Forum resulted in an outcome statement, titled ‘The SIDS Accelerated Modalities of Action (S.A.M.O.A) Pathway: Engaging for a Sustainable Future,' which calls on governments to use a human rights and development framework to underpin all action plans, and underscores environmental sustainability, economic justice, gender equality and human rights as critical components in pursuing sustainable development.

Event: Integrating Migration into Development: Diaspora as a Development Enabler [viewed]

An international workshop on ‘Integrating Migration into Development: Diaspora as a Development Enabler' will focus on the interrelationships between migration and the three pillars of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental), and will include the contributions of migrants to development. The event is being co-organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The workshop will focus on the positive impacts of migrants and migration on development. It will feature some environmental panels that will discuss migration as an adaptation strategy.

Event: WOC Business Forum Workshop: 'Changing Oceans and Industry Futures' [viewed]

In conjunction with the World Ocean Council (WOC) Business Forum on Ocean Policy and Planning, WOC and the EU 'Ocean Certain' research project are organizing a workshop under the theme, 'Changing Oceans and Industry Futures: How Will Changes to Ocean Properties and Processes Affect Ocean Business?'. Fifteen ocean industry representatives will gather to give input to the research project, engage in participatory mapping of the industry, construct a future scenario and learn how the 'Ocean Certain' project will move forward with the insights gained at the workshop. The objectives of the event are both to inform industry representatives of the changes in ocean properties, processes and systems and to hear industry members' views on how these changes will affect their business.

WHO Conference on Health and Climate Opens in Geneva [viewed]

The aim of the conference is to catalyze action in addressing the impacts of climate change on health. Participants will focus on the thematic areas of strengthening health system resilience to climate risks and promoting health while mitigating climate change.

UNFCCC TEC Addresses Links Between Technology and Finance Mechanisms [viewed]

UNFCCC21 August 2014: The ninth meeting of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC 9) of the UNFCCC discussed, among other things, matters related to: the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN); technology needs assessments (TNAs), including good practices of results and possible linkages between TNAs and other processes; enabling environments and barriers, including preparation of a national systems of innovation workshop; and climate technology financing, including a draft value proposition paper and a thematic dialogue on climate technology financing.
