US-Brazil Intensify Collaboration on Climate Change [viewed]

us-brazil30 June 2015: During an official visit to Washington DC, US, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff agreed with US President Barack Obama to intensify the collaboration between the two countries, both bilaterally and under the UNFCCC. They issued a Joint US-Brazil Statement on Climate Change that addresses: leadership on the road to the Paris Climate Change Conference in December 2015; ambitious climate action; the launch of a Brazil-US Joint Initiative on Climate Change; cooperation on sustainable land use; and cooperation on clean energy and on climate change adaptation.

EU, China Adopt Joint Statement on Climate Change [viewed]

eu-china29 June 2015: At the 17th bilateral summit between the EU and China, the two parties adopted a joint statement on climate change, recognizing it as "one of the greatest threats facing humanity" and agreeing to elevate climate change cooperation in their bilateral relations. The summit, which commemorated the 40th anniversary of EU-China diplomatic relations, concluded with the adoption of a summit declaration that acknowledges the critical role the two sides must play in addressing climate change.

UN Global Compact Celebrates 15th Anniversary, New Executive Director Appointed [viewed]

globalcompact26 June 2015: Marking its 15th anniversary, the UN Global Compact convened a meeting titled 'Business as a Force for Good,' bringing together business and civil society to illustrate how the private sector is taking action and partnering to advance societal priorities, as well as the UN's post-2015 development agenda. During the meeting, Global Compact platforms and working groups convened their respective annual events, while smaller meetings focused on how to contribute to achieving the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Event: First Annual Forests and Livelihood: Assessment, Research and Engagement (FLARE) Network Conference [viewed]

The International Forestry Resources and Institutions (IFRI) research network, the Program on Forests (PROFOR), and the Musée de l'Homme Research Group on Social and Natural Evolution are convening this workshop to improve the assessment of forest governance approaches as a contribution to improved forest livelihoods, biodiversity conservation and sustainable use, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. The workshop will consider six themes: forest governance and landscapes, agricultural commodities, social and biological aspects of forest dependence, impact evaluations, pathways to prosperity, and climate variability and change.

Event: World Symposium on Climate Change Adaption [viewed]

With a focus on "innovative approaches to implement climate change adaptation," the World Symposium on Climate Change Adaptation (WSCCA-2015) will aim to: provide researchers, civil society and firms from around the world an opportunity to present their work on adaptation; foster the exchange of information, good practice, ideas, experiences and successes acquired in executing adaptation projects; discuss methodological approaches derived from case studies and projects; and provide an opportunity for participants to explore possibilities for cooperation. It will also document and disseminate the existing body of knowledge and experiences on climate change through a book titled 'Innovative Approaches to Implement Climate Change Adaptation' and through a special issue of 'International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management'. Among the event's organizers are the International Climate Change Information Programme (ICCIP), the UN University (UNU) Regional Centres of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (RCE), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the European Environment Agency (EEA).

UNGA Holds High-Level Event on Climate Change [viewed]

HLE_Web-Graphics29 June 2015: "We must act with courage," UN General Assembly (UNGA) President Sam Kutesa told UN Member States gathered at the High-Level Event on Climate Change he hosted. He called for "bold, collective action" to "reverse the current trends and preserve our planet." The High-Level Event was convened at the midpoint between the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC and COP 21, and aimed to provide political momentum for an ambitious climate agreement.

Event: 2015 Regional Forum on Climate Change [viewed]

The Regional Forum on Climate Change (RFCC), under the theme 'Low Carbon and Climate Resilient Societies: Bridging Science, Practice, and Policy,' will strive to build a common understanding of the issues that will face negotiators at the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC in Paris, France, in December 2015. Participants will work toward formulating implementable policies to combat the scientific realities of climate change. RFCC is being organized by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the EU.
