22 April 2013: The Global Water Partnership (GWP) held the First Dialogue on National Development and Water Security in the context of Climate Change Adaptation to consider the linkages among water management, climate change adaptation and sustainable economic growth in Peru.
This two-day regional conference will discuss findings from the World Bank Program on Forests (PROFOR) study on Deforestation Trends in the Congo Basin, including proposed recommendations and potential tradeoffs between protecting forest ecosystems and economic growth. The Central African Forests Commission (COMIFAC) requested the study to increase understanding of deforestation dynamics in the Central African region. The World Bank and COMIFAC are organizing the conference.
12 April 2013: The Programme on Research on Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation (PROVIA), a joint UN initiative, organized a workshop on Suggested Research Priorities for Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation to Climate Change.
The 3rd annual Global Green Growth Summit will be held on 10-11 June 2013, in the Republic of Korea. The Global Green Growth Summit is an annual event centered on green growth and provides an opportunity to review progress and think together about initiatives that can accelerate the transition to a new paradigm of sustainable growth. The two previous Summits were held in 2011 and 2012, and had the themes "Building a Planet-Responsible Civilization" and "Global Governance for Green Growth and the Green Economy," respectively.
22 April 2013: A high-level meeting on "Coherence, coordination and cooperation in the context of financing for development and the post-2015 development agenda" brought together the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to discuss the global economic and financial crisis and its impact on financing for development.
22 April 2013: The Regional Workshop on "Integrating Local and Indigenous Knowledge related to Hydro-meteorological Hazards and Climate Change Adaptation with Scientific Knowledge: Lessons learned" concluded the second phase of the “Strengthening Resilience of Coastal and Small Island Communities towards Hydro-meteorological Hazards and Climate Change Impacts (StResCom)” project, a three-year project funded by the Japan Funds-in-Trust (UNESCO-JFIT).
19 April 2013: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon addressed ministers participating in the Ministerial Dialogue on Sustainable Development and Climate Change Financing, held in Washington, US, on 19 April 2013, focusing on ongoing work on the definition of a post-2015 development framework that builds on the successes of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and on reaching a 2015 agreement under the UNFCCC.
22 April 2013: The Co-Chairs of the Group of Friends on Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) – Denmark, Norway and Pakistan – hosted a high-level event to update UN Member States on SE4ALL and others and gather support for sustainable energy. The event took place on 22 April 2013, in New York, US, in follow-up to the first meeting of the SE4ALL Advisory Board, on 19 April, in Washington, DC.
22 April 2013: In commemoration of International Mother Earth Day, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) held an interactive dialogue on Harmony with Nature, called for in UNGA resolution 67/214. The dialogue, held at UN Headquarters in New York, US, on 22 April 2013, featured remarks from UN officials and Member State representatives, and a panel discussion and interactive exchange between participants and delegates.
11 April 2013: Foreign Ministers of the Group of Eight (G8) met in London, UK, from 10-11 April 2013, to address a number of international issues, challenges and opportunities that impact on global peace, security and prosperity. The joint statement adopted at the conclusion of the meeting addresses, among other issues, climate change.
