Event: Third Session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term Cooperative Action under the UNFCCC and Sixth Session of the AWG under the Kyoto Protocol [viewed]

The third meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term Cooperative Action, a body established at COP 13 in Bali, will take place Accra, Ghana, from 21-27 August 2008. The sixth session of the AWG on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Protocol will also take place at the same time.

Event: First Session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term Cooperative Action under the UNFCCC and Fifth Session of the AWG under the Kyoto Protocol [viewed]

The first meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term Cooperative Action, a new body established at COP 13 in Bali, will take place from 31 March - 4 April 2008, in Bangkok. The purpose of the meeting will be to develop the Group's work programme. The fifth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol will also be held at the same time.

Event: Beijing International Conference on Combating Desertification [viewed]

The State Forestry Administration of the People's Republic of China (SFA) and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) will organize this conference, which will bring together senior government decision-makers, representatives of local authorities, officials from the UN system, researchers and experts, as well as practitioners, to share lessons learned and best practices in combating desertification. It will be convened as an intersessional event in contribution to the 16th session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD).

Event: UNCCD CRIC 7 and CST Special Session [viewed]

Based on COP 8 decision ICCD/COP(8)/L.30/Rev.1, CRIC 7 will convene from 3-14 November 2008, in Istanbul, Turkey. Based on COP 8 decision ICCD/COP(8)/L.17, the CST shall be held in conjunction with this session of the CRIC.

Event: Fourteenth Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC and Fourth Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol [viewed]

UNFCCC COP 14 and Kyoto Protocol COP/MOP 4 are scheduled to take place from 1-12 December 2008 in Poznan, Poland. These meetings will coincide with the 29th meetings of the UNFCCC's subsidiary bodies.

CSD-15 Concludes Without Adopting Negotiated Text [viewed]

May 2007: The fifteenth session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-15) convened from 30 April-11 May 2007, at UN headquarters in New York, US. Building on the outcomes of CSD-14 (a “Review Year”), CSD-15 focused on identifying policies and options to expedite the implementation of commitments in the areas of energy for sustainable development, industrial development, air pollution/atmosphere and climate change.

Event: Thirteenth Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC and Third Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol [viewed]

UNFCCC COP 13 and Kyoto Protocol COP/MOP 3 will take place from 3-14 December 2007 at the Bali International Conference Center and adjacent Nusa Dua facilities, Indonesia. These meetings will coincide with the 27th meetings of the UNFCCC's subsidiary bodies and the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments from Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol. COP 13 and COP/MOP 3 are also expected to be accompanied by a UNFCCC Dialogue on Long-Term Cooperative Action on Climate Change and various other events.

GEF CEO Proposes Shorter Project Cycle and Reduced Pipeline at Council Meeting [viewed]

8 December 2006: The Global Environment Facility's (GEF) CEO Monique Barbut opened the 5-8 December 2006 Council meeting in Washington DC, US, with a proposed “Five Point Sustainability Compact to Increase Efficiency and Impact.” Her proposal included: shifting from a project-driven to a programmatic approach by focusing strategies on a clear set of priority issues for the global environment; reducing the current project pipeline in half; appointing an “Ombudsman” in the GEF Secretariat to respond to country concerns or complaints; and redesigning the project approval cycle to reduce it from 66 to 22 months.

Event: UNFCCC Dialogue and Kyoto Protocol AWG 4 [viewed]

The fourth workshop of the 'Dialogue on long-term cooperative action to address climate change by enhancing implementation of the Convention' and the fourth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG), are expected to take place from 27-31 August 2007, in Vienna, Austria.
