CBD Secretariat's April Bulletin of Activities Highlights Biodiversity and Climate Change Issues [viewed]

© CBD5 May 2009: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has issued its monthly Bulletin of Activities for April 2009. Among others, the Bulletin highlights the outcomes of the meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on biodiversity and climate change, held from 18-22 April 2009, in Helsinki, Finland and a new publication on “Indigenous Peoples and Traditional Knowledge related to Biological Diversity and Responses to Climate Change in the Arctic Region.”

WMO Convenes Workshop on Global Atmosphere [viewed]

© WMO5 May 2009: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), under its Global Atmosphere Watch programme, is convening a workshop from 5-7 May 2009, in Geneva, Switzerland. The workshop brings together about 90 experts from 30 countries to discuss the need for new improved observational and analysis techniques to address climate-relevant questions and advance studies of atmospheric composition.

UN Department of Public Information Focused on MDGs and Climate Change [viewed]

Antonio Lima (Cape Verde) noted that the UN Department of Public Information (DPI) is now better equipped, more focused and technologically better prepared to spread the message about the work carried out by the Organization.

Event: International Energy Conference 2009 [viewed]

This conference is titled “Towards an Integrated Energy Agenda Beyond 2020: Securing Sustainable Policies and Investments.” It is co-organized by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), the Global Forum on Sustainable Energy, the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Austrian Development Cooperation and the Austrian Energy Agency. The Conference will stress the need for increased international cooperation and highlight the role the UN system and development partners can play in the field of energy.
