Event: ECLAC Second Latin American and Caribbean Dialogue Towards Copenhagen [viewed]

The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) organized this meeting for negotiators from the region to exchange opinions on the climate negotiations, which will take place at ECLAC headquarters on 2 September. Ricardo Lagos, United Nations Special Envoy on Climate Change and former President of Chile, and Luiz Alberto Figueiredo, Vice Chair of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA), will participate in the Dialogue.

Event: African Partnership Forum Special Session on Climate Change [viewed]

The African Partnership Forum (APF) special session on climate change, which is scheduled for 3 September 2009, in Addis Ababa, will focus on Africa's concerns and expectations in the negotiations on a new post-Kyoto agreement on climate change. The meeting is organized by the African Union (AU) Commission, the NEPAD Secretariat, the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD). The objective of the special session is to mobilize a broad support for Africa's position on climate change to ensure that its concerns are reflected in the outcomes of the fifteenth Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP15 UNFCCC), taking place in December in Copenhagen.

Event: 11th Annual BIOECON Conference on Economic Instruments to Enhance the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity [viewed]

This Conference, hosted by Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei in association with Conservation International, DEFRA, Department of Land Economy of Cambridge University and the European Investment Bank (EIB), is focused on identifying the most effective and efficient instruments for biodiversity conservation. Among other issues it will address the demand for climate mitigation services, such as the protection of forests and wetlands to absorb carbon dioxide.

UN Secretary-General at Global Environment Forum Calls for Thinking ‘Outside-the-Box' [viewed]
