February 2010: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has published the statement and recommendations from the UNESCO International Year of Biodiversity (IYB) Science Policy Conference, which took place in Paris, France, from 25-29 January 2010. The Statement recognizes that biodiversity provides critical goods and services on which our lives depend, including the stabilization of climate.

UNFF 9 CHAIR ADDRESSES ECOSOC MEETING [viewed]

Event: 31st Session of the Joint Scientific Committee for the World Climate Research Programme [viewed]

This session of the Joint Scientific Committee for the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) will discuss a WCRP programme. A key topic of discussion will be the role of WCRP research in the Global Framework for Climate Services, including how to develop the next generation of applied climate research. UN Secretary-General's Report on NEPAD Highlights the Impact of Climate Change on Africa's Development [viewed]

8 February 2010: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has released a report titled “Social Dimensions of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD),” which reviews the state of progress in the implementation of NEPAD, as well as its social dimensions within the context of the converging global food, financial and energy crises, and climate change (E/CN.5/2010/3).

Event: Second Meeting of Caring for Climate Signatories [viewed]

This meeting is by invitation only and is organized by the UN Global Compact. The event will bring together some 150 corporate practitioners, climate experts and civil society leaders. Event: International Polar Year Oslo Science Conference [viewed]

The International Polar Year 2007-2008 (IPY) was an intensive, internationally coordinated scientific research campaign focused on the Arctic and the Antarctic, sponsored by the International Council for Science and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). This conference will celebrate and publish early results from the IPY, with particular emphasis on new knowledge about the linkages between climate change in the Polar Regions and global climate systems.
