EU Environmental Ministers Call for Stronger Links between REDD, Biodiversity and Development [viewed]

11 September 2009: Environmental ministers and senior officials of the European Union met in Strömstad, Sweden, with a view to contributing to the revision of the Strategic Plan of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) after 2010. At the High-level Meeting entitled “Visions for Biodiversity Beyond 2010 – People, Ecosystems and the Climate Crisis,” held on 7-9 September 2009, participants endorsed a target to halt global forest cover loss by 2030 and to reduce gross tropical deforestation by at least 50% by 2020 compared to current levels.

Event: International Conference on Food Security and Climate Change in Dry Areas [viewed]

This meeting will share expertise on food security issues expected to be impacted by climate change and identify mechanisms for cooperation between national, regional and international organizations. The meeting is organized by the International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA), a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), in partnership with regional agricultural institutions. It will be hosted by Jordan's Ministry of Agriculture.

11 September 2009: The report of the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group on Biodiversity and Climate Change, established under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), has been finalized and will be published as CBD Technical Series no. 41, Connecting Biodiversity and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation – Report of the Second Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group on Biodiversity and Climate Change.

Event: Global Strategy Summit: Global Gathering of the World's Air Transport Leaders [viewed]

This conference, which is organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the World Bank, will provide airline and airport Chairs and CEOs the opportunity to informally discuss key issues currently affecting the air transport industry and will include a panel on environmental challenges for the civil aviation industry. It will be held alongside the 15th World Route Development Forum.

Event: High-level Meeting on International Aviation and Climate Change [viewed]

This meeting, organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), will review the Programme of Action recommended by the Group on International Aviation and Climate Change (GIACC), which was tasked with creating an aggressive Programme of Action on International Aviation and Climate Change, based on consensus and reflecting the shared vision and strong will of all Contracting States. Participants are to discuss goals and implementation options, proposals for strategies and measures to achieve emissions reductions, and means to measure this progress.
