Heads of State Pledge to Take Action on REDD [viewed]

Event: IEA 2009 Ministerial Meeting [viewed]

The International Energy Agency (IEA) will convene a ministerial-level meeting to discuss global energy and environmental challenges. Discussions will focus on: ensuring secure and sustainable energy supplies in the aftermath of the economic crisis; necessary steps required to meet tough climate change targets; and addressing the aforementioned challenges at the global level. Additional talks will be held on improving global energy dialogue, ensuring comprehensive energy security and actions for assuring the sustainability of energy supplies in the future. The event will also include a presentation highlighting important features of the World Energy Outlook 2009 to be released ahead of schedule in November 2009, to give decision makers and negotiators the most up-to-date information available in the run-up to Copenhagen.

Event: Fifth Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (UNECE Water Convention) [viewed]

Among other issues, Parties will consider the adoption of the draft Guidance on Water and Adaptation to Climate Change, which focuses on adaptation from a transboundary perspective, and ways to implement it. The Meeting will further discuss future cooperation on water and adaptation to climate change with the European Commission and with the Task Force on Extreme Weather Events under the Protocol on Water and Health, as well as future activities on transboundary flood risk management.
