UN Secretary-General Focuses on Climate Change in China [viewed]

24 July 2009: The UN Secretary-General made a two-day official visit to China, during which he focused on climate change. In the morning of 24 July 2009, he participated in the launch of the “Green Lights” programme, which promotes energy-saving lighting that could cut China's energy consumption by 8%. He stated that China's approach to climate change can demonstrate to the world that the country is ready to take up a global leadership role in the 21st century.

Event: CBD Regional Workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean on Ways and Means to Promote the Sustainable Production and Use of Biofuels [viewed]

The objective of this workshop, organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), is to share experiences on the development and application of tools relevant to the sustainable production and use of biofuels. In particular, participants will focus on the promotion of the positive and minimization of the negative impacts of biofuels on biodiversity and related socioeconomic aspects, including those related to indigenous and local communities, taking into account their full life-cycle as compared to other fuel types.

Event: Climate Neutral Cities Seminar [viewed]

This seminar is organized by the Environment, Housing and Land Management Division of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and will address how urban planning and building can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and enhance the overall sustainability of a city. IPCC Chair at UN Press Conference: G8 Leaders Did Not Take IPCC Recommendations into Account [viewed]
