Least Developing Countries (LDCs), taking place in New York, US, UN Deputy
Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro underlined that climate change and the food
and oil crises add new pitfalls to achieving the 10-year Brussels Programme of
Action.

Reducing Disaster risks in a Changing Climate, which took place in New York,
US, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged enhanced efforts to reduce the
fall-out from natural disasters, noting that climate change leads to harsher
weather extremes.

29 September 2008: During the ninth Indo-EU summit, which took place on 29 September 2008, in Marseille, France, India and the EU agreed to expand their cooperation in the field of nuclear energy and environmental protection. They also reviewed the 2006 Joint Action Plan and agreed to add
several new areas of cooperation, including in the field of exploitation of solar energy in India and civil nuclear research and development including in fusion energy.

26 September 2008: Speaking at the thirty-second meeting of
the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Group of 77 (G-77), Baldwin Spencer,
Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Antigua and Barbuda and Chair
of the G-77, welcomed the Group's continued efforts to strengthen its
solidarity and unity in advancing its development agenda. Referring to the
recent debates on climate change, he warned that the position of developed
countries with respect to development cooperation does not bode well, noting
that it will be “a tough battle.”
