Event: FAO World Summit on Food Security [viewed]

The FAO World Summit on Food Security will discuss putting into place a more coherent and effective system of food security, including rules and mechanisms to ensure adequate incomes for farmers, mobilizing investments into agricultural infrastructure and access to inputs, and a mechanism for early reaction to food crises. The Summit agenda will also include roundtables on: financial and economic crisis and food security; global governance of food security; agriculture and the Copenhagen conference on climate change; support measures for farmers; and an early reaction fund for food security.

UN PERMANENT FORUM ON INDIGENOUS ISSUES CONSIDERS CLIMATE CHANGE AND LAND TENURE ISSUES [viewed]

Third C40 Large Cities Summit Addresses Achievements and Challenges in Fighting Climate Change [viewed]

© UN2 June 2009: The third Summit of the C40, a group of the world's largest cities committed to tackling climate change, was held in Seoul, South Korea, from 18-21 May 2009. Under the theme “Cities' Achievements and Challenges in the Fight Against Climate Change,” the Summit brought together mayors, company executives and leaders from 40 cities and 17 affiliate municipalities around the world to share their policies and good practices in addressing global warming.

CBD Addresses Cooperation Issues and Nairobi Work Programme at UNFCCC SBSTA 30 [viewed]

Joint AU and UNECA Conference to Consider Progress Report on Implementation of Climate Change Programme [viewed]

May 2009: The Meeting of the Committee of Experts of the Second Joint Annual Meetings of the African Union (AU) Conference of Ministers of Economy and Finance and UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) Conference of Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development will take place in Cairo, Egypt, from 2-5 June 2009. During the meeting, experts will consider a Progress Report on Climate Change and Development, which aims to update the 2009 Joint Annual Meetings on the progress made in the implementation of the Climate Change and Development (Clim-Dev) Africa programme by the AU Commission and the UNECA since the 2008 conference (E/ECA/COE/28/9; AU/CAMEF/EXP/9(IV)).

ECOSOC Releases Report of the 11th Session of the Committee for Development Policy [viewed]

Event: Special Session of the Human Rights Council on Human Rights and Climate Change [viewed]

The 11th session of the UN Human Rights Council will take place from 2-19 June 2009, to consider the reports on protecting the human rights of civilians in armed conflict, and on the draft guiding principles on extreme poverty and human rights. On 15 June, the Council will host a special session on human rights and climate change.
