UN/ISDR and Partners Organize Shanghai Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction [viewed]

30 July 2010: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR), the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), DevNet, and ICLEI (Local Governments for Sustainability), with support from the International Recovery Platform and GROOTS, organized the Shanghai Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) from 28-30 July 2010, on the sidelines of the 2010 Shanghai Expo, "Better City, Better Life," in China.

Ramsar Co-Organizes Workshop on Climate Adaptation in Murray-Darling Basin [viewed]

29 July 2010: Max Finlayson, wetlands and climate change expert member of Ramsar's Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP), and Brendan Edgar, Australia's National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility, co-organized a workshop to review options for coping with adapting to a changing climate in the Murray-Darling Basin (MDB), south-east Australia's major river catchment.

Event: IPCC Expert Meeting on Use of Models and Measurements in GHG Inventories and Task Force Bureau [viewed]

The IPCC expert meeting on the Use of Models and Measurements in Greenhouse Gas Inventories will take place on 9-11 August. This meeting will be followed by the 22nd Session of the Task Force Bureau of the IPCC on 12 August in the same location.

Event: Climate Change Awareness Policy for Public Broadcasting [viewed]

This training meeting is organized by the Southern African Broadcasting Association (SABA) and it encompasses climate change journalism, broadcaster responsibility, programme evaluation and agreement on a universal template for internal broadcasting policy for 10 broadcasters. This training workshop is sponsored by the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC), a multilateral forum in the UN system that seeks to mobilize the international community to discuss and promote media development in developing countries.

Event: Workshop on a Practical Guide for Integrating Climate Change into National Forest Programmes [viewed]

This workshop will be coordinated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the National Forest Programme Facility. It will bring together results from four previous workshops in Cambodia, Paraguay, South Africa and Tanzania to develop generic guidelines for integrating climate change into national forest policy.

Event: Global Conference on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change [viewed]

This meeting is organized by the Government of the Netherlands in cooperation with the Governments of Ethiopia, Norway and New Zealand, the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). The meeting aims to provide concrete actions to link the implementation of agriculture-related investments, policies, and measures with long-term carbon emission reductions and adaptation benefits. It will address new and additional and innovative ways of financing the roadmap for action and aims to contribute to the UNFCCC climate talks in Cancun, Mexico. The conference will include a ministerial roundtable.

Interim REDD+ Expert Meeting Highlighted in UN-REDD July Newsletter [viewed]

UNREDD Newsletter28 July 2010: The UN-REDD Programme has released its July Newsletter, which outlines recent activities on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks (REDD+). Highlighted is a recent meeting of the Interim REDD+ Partnership, which was established in May at the Oslo Climate and Forest conference.

African Union Summit Discusses Climate Change Negotiations [viewed]

27 July 2010: The 15th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) met from 25-27 July 2010, in Kampala, Uganda, following the 20th Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives Committee (19-20 July) and the 17th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council (22-23 July). Among other items, these meetings featured discussions of ongoing international climate change negotiations.

Event: Joint UNECE-UNCTAD Workshop on Climate Change Impacts on International Transport Networks [viewed]
