Event: Latin America Regional Forum on Promoting Wood-Based Bioenergy Using Wood Residues and Wastes [viewed]

This regional forum, organized by the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) and the Brazilian Forest Service, aims to raise decision makers' awareness on the technical and economic potentials of using logging residues and wood-processing wastes for energy generation, thereby increasing resource utilization and energy efficiency in ITTO producing member countries in Latin America. The Forum will address inter alia: opportunities for improving energy security through wood-based bioenergy; potential use of wood residues for the co-generation of energy in wood industries to increase the cost-effectiveness of their operations; meeting the needs of wood-based bioenergy sector through sustainable forest management; and development of an efficient and cost-effective wood-based bioenergy sector in Latin America, including the transfer of appropriate technology and investment.

WMO Posts Media Kit for WCC-3 [viewed]

26 June 2009: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council, which met from 22-24 June 2009, in Washington DC, US, approved a work programme including 20 projects within the climate change focal area, mostly related to energy efficiency, assigning US$61.1 million in GEF grants in 23 countries.

Event: International Symposium on Climate Change at the Eve of the Second Decade of the Century [viewed]

This symposium is organized by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, under the patronage of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - International Hydrological Programme (UNESCO-IHP) and co-organized by the National Climate Center Milankovitch of the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute of Serbia. The symposium will review: the rapid global climate change in progress; recent developments in paleoclimate; the use of paleo data to asses the future climate under various greenhouse gas scenarios; and regional climate change.

Event: Seventh International Convention on the Environment and Development [viewed]
