Event: INDM, IGO, IACNDR [viewed]

The Third Hemispheric Encounter of the Inter-American Network for Disaster Mitigation (INDM) will consider the theme 'Integrating Disaster Risk Management and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Development Agenda'. A meeting of the Inter-American Committee on Natural Disaster Reduction (IACNRD) will take place in parallel on 25 November, followed on 26 November by a Meeting of the Subregional Specialized Inter-governmental Organizations (IGO) on Disaster Risk Management that also serve as the Regional Focal Points for INDM, namely the Central American Integration System's (SICA) Center for the Prevention of Natural Disasters in Central America (CEPREDENAC), CARICOM's Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), and the Andean Community's Committee for the Prevention and Attention to Disasters (CAPRADE). These meetings will: share experiences and good practices on the basis of the findings and results of studies undertaken in Central America, the Caribbean and Andean region so as to inform public policy to improve national disaster risk management systems; reactivate the ICDM and IACNRD; discuss a strategic plan for the next three to five years; and increase collaboration and coordination between the OAS, sub-regional IGO and UN agencies, particularly the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (ISDR), regarding disaster risk management.

Event: 2014 Climate and Health Summit [viewed]

Organized in parallel with the 20th session of the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP 20), the third annual Climate and Health Summit will raise awareness about climate change's negative effects on health and mitigation's potential to create a "cleaner, healthier and more equitable world". The Summit aims to ensure health considerations are included in negotiations toward a 2015 agreement on climate change. The Global Climate and Health Alliance, organizer of the Summit, hopes to galvanize the international health community in advance of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and COP 21 in 2015. The Summit will exhibit climate change best practices that improve public health. The event will bring together government ministers from health, development, energy and environment departments, other policy makers, technical experts, academics, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civil society, medical and health professionals, local health and environment authorities, UN staff and youth.

GCF Board Paves Way for Initial Resource Mobilization [viewed]

UNIDO Continues Technical Training on Environmental Projects for CIS Countries [viewed]

UNIDO17 October 2014: The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has organized a capacity building workshop for countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on mitigating global environmental problems. The event provided 25 participants from the Ministries of Environment, Energy and Ecology of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation and Ukraine with tools to enhance the quality of project submissions to the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

GWP Southern Africa Workshop Discusses Water Security, Climate Change [viewed]

The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWP-SAf) hosted the workshop, which aimed to share knowledge and lessons learned from WACDEP implementation.

Event: 15th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS 2015) [viewed]

The 15th edition of the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS 2015) will focus on ‘Sustainable Development Goals and Dealing with Climate Change'. The DSDS, organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), is an international platform to facilitate the exchange of knowledge on all sustainable development-related issues. The event regularly brings together Heads of State and Government, thought leaders, policy makers and representatives of industry and academia. The DSDS has been held annually since 2001, and over the past 14 years, the Summit has hosted 37 current and former Heads of State, as well as ministers from over 50 countries. The Summit will be preceded by a high-level corporate dialogue on 4 February 2015.

Event: Second International Conference on Renewable Energies for Developing Countries (REDEC 2014) [viewed]

The Second International Conference on Renewable Energies for Developing Countries (REDEC 2014) will explore solutions for energy saving and production in developing countries, including in the areas of: renewable energy resources; renewable energy conversion; energy storage; energy management, saving and efficiency; renewable energy-relevant policies and regulation in developing countries; technologies for rural energy service provision; and regional and international support programs for renewable energy in developing countries. A joint event on 'Appropriate Technologies and Mechanisms for Energy Services in Arab Rural Areas' will be organized by the UN Economic Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) on 25 November.

Event: Second Preparatory Committee meeting for Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction [viewed]

A second session of the Preparatory Committee for the Third International Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is expected to develop the draft post-2015 DRR framework. In addition to negotiations on this document, technical workshops will convene to address: indicators, monitoring and review process for the post-2015 framework; and integration of disaster risks in financial regulation. The Chair is also expected to hold two dialogue sessions with major groups. The Third International Conference on DRR will be held in Sendai, Japan, in March 2015.

Event: 12th Development and Climate Days [viewed]

The 12th Development and Climate Days will be held on the sidelines of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC. The slogan of the event, 'Zero poverty. Zero emissions. Within a generation' draws attention to the need for climate change mitigation, adaptation and increased resilience in order to eradicate poverty. The programme for the conference includes a series of sessions directed toward integrating climate and poverty reduction targets. Representatives from the intergovernmental, public, private, non-profit and media sectors will elaborate on the 'zero-zero' vision, pitch ideas for achieving these goals, discuss potential financing pathways, consider radical adaptation measures, and lead games on trade-offs and spurring political change. This annual event is jointly organized by the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN).

Event: REN21 Renewables Academy 2014 [viewed]

The Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21) Academy 2014, organized from 10-12 November in Bonn, Germany, will take stock of renewable energy developments over the past decade and explore ways to further advance the global energy transition with renewables. The event will convene over plenary, lunch and coffee networking, and parallel thematic sessions. Topics on the agenda include: renewable energy policy frameworks; power sector transformation; fossil fuel subsidy reform; renewables heating and cooling; distributed renewable energy; working with media; data for decision-making; and pathways towards 100% renewable energy and the role of the consumer.
