The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) is an informal process of dialogue and cooperation, bringing together the 27 EU member States and the European Commission with 16 Asian countries and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Secretariat.
5 May 2009: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), under its Global Atmosphere Watch programme, is convening a workshop from 5-7 May 2009, in Geneva, Switzerland. The workshop brings together about 90 experts from 30 countries to discuss the need for new improved observational and analysis techniques to address climate-relevant questions and advance studies of atmospheric composition.
4 May 2009: The UN Committee on Information is holding its 31st session from 4-15 May 2009, in New York, US. Opening the meeting, Amb. Antonio Lima (Cape Verde) noted that the UN Department of Public Information (DPI) is now better equipped, more focused and technologically better prepared to spread the message about the work carried out by the Organization.
This conference is titled “Towards an Integrated Energy Agenda Beyond 2020: Securing Sustainable Policies and Investments.” It is co-organized by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), the Global Forum on Sustainable Energy, the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Austrian Development Cooperation and the Austrian Energy Agency. The Conference will stress the need for increased international cooperation and highlight the role the UN system and development partners can play in the field of energy.
The Asian Development Bank's (ADB) Climate and Clean Energy Week will consist of two major events: the High-Level Dialogue on Climate Change in Asia Pacific, and the fourth Asia Clean Energy Forum 2009. The high-level dialogue, co-organized with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), will invite global and regional leaders to share the latest thinking on various aspects of climate change.
These meetings will include the 30th sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies of the UNFCCC – the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) – the eighth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 8), and sixth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 6).
The Asia Forest Partnership (AFP) Dialogue 2009 will examine links between mechanisms to compensate countries for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (REDD), and efforts to combat illegal logging and the associated timber trade.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is organizing a meeting to develop training materials and guidelines on Developing Water and Climate Change Adaptation Guidelines to support the use of a combination of modeling approaches (statistical and dynamic) that will deliver results to clients in the short and medium term.
