This seminar is organized around the theme "Toward Low Carbon and Climate Change-resilient Asia-Pacific -From Copenhagen to Mexico." It is a joint initiative of the Austalian Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency and the Japanese Ministry of the Environment.
The "Geneva Dialogue on Climate Financing," which is co-organized by the Governments of Switzerland and Mexico, will help prepare for the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC scheduled to take place in Cancún, Mexico, at the end of 2010, and will focus on the long-term financing of climate protection. Participants are expected to discuss the overall architecture of the financial mechanism, including the new Climate Fund, as well as private sector engagement, governance and funding sources.
6 July 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the annotated provisional agenda (FCCC/KP/AWG/2010/8) for the 13th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 13), which will be held in conjunction with the 11th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 11), from 2-6 August 2010, in Bonn, Germany.
7 July 2010: The 31st Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) was held in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from 4-7 July 2010, to discuss, among other things, climate change issues.
7 July 2010: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon addressed the Security Council in New York, US, on 7 July 2010, and noted that the protection of civilians encompasses broader challenges, such as governance, resource scarcity, climate change and land disputes.
5 July 2010: Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Katsuya Okada met with Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs Patricia Espinosa Cantellano on 5 July 2010, to discuss, among other things, international climate change negotiations.
2 July 2010: The 12th meeting of the Working Group of the Parties to the Aarhus Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters was held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 30 June–2 July 2010, and addressed, inter alia, the application of the principles of the Convention in international fora.
5 July 2010: The 62nd session of the Executive Council of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) took place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 8-18 June 2010, and adopted innovative approaches for further advancing global observing systems, research and forecasts in the fields of weather, climate and water, in a general context of financial crisis.
2 July 2010: The reports from the meetings of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Methodologies Panel, Afforestation/Reforestation Working Group and Small-Scale Working Group are now available on the CDM website.
