FAO Launches Policy Guide and Learning Event on Advancing Agroforestry [viewed]

FAO5 February 2013: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released the first in a series of working papers on agroforestry. The guide, titled "Advancing Agroforestry on the Policy Agenda," is aimed at decision makers, NGOs and government agencies to promote the integration of agroforestry into national strategies.

EC Reports on EU-Funded REDD+ Projects [viewed]

DSDS Focuses on Resource-Efficient Growth and Development [viewed]

31 January 2013: The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI)'s Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) organized annually since 2001, discussed sustainability challenges across different business sectors as well as resource-efficient growth. The 2013 Summit was organized around the theme "The Global Challenge of Resource Efficient Growth and Development."

Event: Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety COP-MOP 7 [viewed]

The seventh meeting of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Conference of the Parties serving as Meeting of the Parties (MOP) to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety is scheduled for 29 September-3 October 2014. Among other issues, the meeting is expected to address: handling, transport, packaging and identification (HTPI) of living modified organisms (LMOs); risk assessment and risk management; and socio-economic considerations.

Event: Seminar on Climate Change and Forests: Conservation of Tropical Forests towards the Green Economy [viewed]

The Forestry and Forestry Products Research Institute (FFPRI) is organizing a two-day seminar on REDD+. Topics will include partnerships with the private sector, robust MRV systems, safeguards, and scaling up of REDD+ activities from the project level to the national level. The first day will host a participatory discussion of private sector investors, the general public and students. The second day will center on technical issues for the benefit of experts, government officials, researchers and students. Waseda University Environmental Research Institute, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) are co-organizing the event.

Event: Identifying Global Actions to Advance CCS in Industrial Applications [viewed]

This workshop, organized by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA), will discuss the steel, cement, refining, chemicals and other major energy-intensive sectors in the context of technology readiness, project development models and supportive policy regimes. The event, which is aimed at governments and companies active in the relevant sectors, will focus on eliciting key messages and policy conclusions. Recent work on carbon capture and storage (CCS) in industrial applications in different regions will also be considered. An afternoon working session will address the report to the fourth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM4).
