CBA8 Adopts Kathmandu Declaration on Financing Local Adaptation [viewed]

cba830 April 2014: The 8th Annual Community-Based Adaptation Conference (CBA8) brought together over 400 stakeholders and practitioners in community-based adaptation (CBA) for field trips, plenaries and meetings, focusing on financing CBA, sharing best practices and integrating lessons learned into development planning. The conference concluded with the adoption of a declaration that calls for a focused and human rights-based approach to financing local adaptation to climate change.

Workshop Addresses Earth Observations and the Water-Energy-Food Nexus [viewed]

fao-esa-gwsp27 March 2014: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) hosted the Workshop on Earth Observations (EO) and the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus. Participants discussed: examples of EO contributions to WEF nexus assessments; information needs of WEF policy-makers; gaps in monitoring information and services that could be addressed by EO; and development of a synthesis report on the state of EO applications to WEF issues.

OECD's ENVIRONET, WP-STAT Evaluate Development Finance Reporting [viewed]

OECD21 March 2014: A meeting convened by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Development Assistance Committee (DAC), the Network on Environment and Development Co-operation (ENVIRONET) and the Working Party on Development Finance Statistics (WP-STAT) discussed trends in the reporting of development and climate finance flows, including the use of the Rio markers for reporting under the Rio Conventions.

Event: UNGA Thematic Debate on Human Security [viewed]

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) Thematic Debate on Human Security will address the theme ‘Responding to the opportunities and challenges of the 21st Century: Human Security and the post-2015 development agenda,' and will provide Member States with an opportunity to discuss the UN Secretary-General's third report on human security (A/68/685), which illustrates the potential of a human security approach to overcome obstacles to sustainable development, reduce the likelihood of conflicts and provide a life of dignity for all. The event will also consider how human security might be included in the post-2015 agenda. The debate will include an opening session, an interactive panel discussion and a closing session. It will: assess the perspective of national planning processes towards environmental sustainability, inclusive economic development, inclusive social development and peace and security; and consider human security experiences. The event will also focus on: the causal processes of climate change and its impact on people and communities; and disparities and inequalities, with a particular focus on women in situations of vulnerability.

Indian Ocean Countries Collaborate on Climate Data Rescue [viewed]

gfcs24 April 2014: The International Workshop on the Recovery and Digitization of Climate Heritage in the Indian Ocean Rim Countries and Islands convened in recognition of the need to accelerate the recovery of the region's historical climate records. At the workshop, governments established the INdian Ocean Data REscue Initiative (INDARE), adopted a declaration and agreed to finalize an INDARE implementation plan.

Global Oceans Action Summit Charts a Path for Ocean Health, Blue Growth [viewed]

Event: Tehran Workshop on Harnessing Climate Change Financing for Forests in Central Asia [viewed]

The workshop, the first of three sub-regional workshops to be held as part of the Climate Change Financing for Forests Project under the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF), will facilitate an exchange of views and experiences on climate change finance for forest management. Outcomes from the workshop will include suggestions on ways to enhance the links between climate change and forest finance. Hosted by the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), the workshop will bring together representatives from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

UNFCCC Publishes ADP Reflections and Scenario Notes [viewed]

UNFCCC17 April 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published two documents related to the work of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP). The first provides reflections on progress made at the fourth part of the ADP's second session, and the second is a scenario note on the fifth part of the ADP's second session.
