WMO Workshop Focuses on Improving Climate Services in Asian LDCs [viewed]

WMO17 September 2014: A World Meteorological Organization (WMO) regional workshop on the provision of weather- and climate-related services in least developed countries (LDCs) brought together participants from National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) of eight Asian LDCs, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Nepal, Myanmar and Yemen.

Event: IV EUROCLIMA Seminar [viewed]

The fourth meeting of the EUROCLIMA Programme participants, which represents their first meeting since the Programme entered Phase II, will bring together EUROCLIMA national focal points, EU officials, and experts from associated organizations, namely the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and the Interamerican Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). The first day will be devoted to interaction with the Iberoamerican Network of Climate Change Offices (RIOCC), which is holding its 11th annual meeting in Lima, Peru, from 30 September-1 October. The second day will look at EUROCLIMA in the context of the EU's recently-approved Indicative Cooperation Programme for Latin America for 2014-2020, preparations for COP 20, plans for EUROCLIMA in the 2014-2016 period, and presentations on EUROCLIMA work at the national level. The third day will examine mainstreaming climate change into development policy, strategic mitigation and adaptation measures, and promoting capacity building and knowledge interchange.

Event: Launch of SE4ALL Global Energy Efficiency Accelerating Platform [viewed]

A luncheon will mark the launch of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) Global Energy Efficiency Accelerating Platform, where those countries, cities, companies, international organizations and civil society partners will be honored. The luncheon is being hosted by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the SE4ALL Energy Efficient Hub – Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency, Danfoss, Johnson Controls and the UN Foundation. The events is happening on the day before the UN Climate Change Summit. This event is by invitation only.

Event: High-Level Event: Implementing Sustainable Energy for All [viewed]

This high-level event will include sessions on: financing sustainable energy for all, including a presentation of the report from the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts on Sustainable Development Financing (ICESDF); investing in energy efficiency; accelerating innovation in renewable energy; and scaling up at the country level. The meeting is taking place just prior to the UN Climate Change Summit on 23 September. This event is by invitation only. The Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) is an initiative of the UN Secretary-General.

UNFCCC Reports on 2nd Dialogue on Public Awareness [viewed]

UNFCCC15 September 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a summary report (FCCC/SBI/2014/15) on the second Dialogue on Article 6 of the Convention, held during the 40th session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 40), on 5, 8 and 11 June 2014, in Bonn, Germany. The Dialogue, attended by over 120 representatives of intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations (IGOs and NGOs), the private sector and the media, focused on good practices and lessons learned on public participation, awareness and access to information, and international cooperation on such matters.

Event: Resumed Initial Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage [viewed]

This resumed initial meeting of the Executive Committee (ExCom) of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage associated with Climate Change Impacts is continuing preparations of the draft two-year workplan of the Executive Committee for the implementation of the functions in accordance with decision 2/CP.19 (Warsaw international mechanism for loss and damage). The ExCom plans to present a preliminary draft workplan, with the aim of further consulting with observers on the proposed components of the workplan. The meeting will include extensive interactions between the ExCom and observers on this issue, with the objective of finalizing the workplan.

Arab Countries Highlight Regional Priorities for Post-2015 DRR Framework [viewed]

UNISDR16 September 2014: The 2nd Arab Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) provided the opportunity for approximately 400 Arab government officials, donors, policy makers, planners, academics, civil society representatives and development experts to discuss DRR in the region. The Conference highlighted progress made in DRR efforts, reviewed implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) 2005-2015 in the region, and discussed regional priorities towards the post-2015 DRR framework.

World Reconstruction Conference: DRR Critical to Sustainable Development [viewed]

gfdrr12 September 2014: The second World Reconstruction Conference (WRC 2) brought together over 500 practitioners and policymakers from governments, civil society and the private sector to share lessons learned in post-disaster recovery and reconstruction. The conference aimed to help countries incorporate disaster recovery into their policies and institutions given the increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters.
