GHGT-12 Examines CCS Advancements [viewed]

IPCC-40 Begins its Work on the SYR [viewed]

IPCC27 October 2014: The 40th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-40) opened at the Tivoli Conference Center in Copenhagen, Denmark, to consider and finalize the Synthesis Report (SYR), which integrates and synthesizes the findings from the three working group reports that comprise the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). The Panel is expected to approve, line by line, the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) and adopt the longer SYR section by section. More than 800 authors and review editors from 85 countries have participated in the preparation of AR5 over the past six years.

International Symposium Addresses Weather, Climate Extremes, Food Security and Biodiversity [viewed]

Workshop Addresses Urban Climate Change Resilience in Southeast Asia [viewed]

UN-HABITAT24 October 2014: UN-Habitat participated in a two-day, high-level event examining 'Environment Change and Urbanization in the South East Asia Region.' Commenting on how climate change will affect rapidly urbanizing areas in the region, Nguyen Quang, Director of UN-Habitat Viet Nam, noted that climate change has had "a direct effect on key urban infrastructure such as transportation, water supply and energy, and exacerbates urbanization problems."

Adaptation Fund Board Approves Six Projects Totaling US$33 Million [viewed]

Adaptation Fund10 October 2014: The Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) has announced it will fund six climate resilience projects, in Costa Rica, India, Kenya and South Africa. The decision represents a doubling in the direct access finance provided by the Fund. In addition, the Board approved almost US$150,000 in South-South grants to provide training on the Fund's accreditation process so that more countries will be able to take advantage of direct access finance.

G77/China Ministerial Declaration Addresses Post-2015 Agenda, Climate Change [viewed]

G77logo26 September 2014: The Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Group of 77 and China reaffirmed the report of the Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as the basis for integrating the SDGs into the post-2015 development agenda, at the 38th Annual Meeting of Ministers. They also discussed poverty eradication, means of implementation (MOI) for the post-2015 agenda, South-South cooperation, climate change, trade, and terrorism and occupation, among other issues.

Event: Third Forest Legislation Summit [viewed]

The Global Legislators Organisation (GLOBE International) is organizing the Third Forest Legislation Summit on the sidelines of the 20th session of the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP 20). Legislators from over 20 countries are expected to participate in the Summit, which will feature side events on climate legislation, natural capital and the progress achieved in 2014. In conjunction with the Summit, GLOBE is convening ministerial meetings with key countries for legislators.

European Council Agrees on 2030 Climate and Energy Policy Framework [viewed]

European Council24 October 2014: The European Council has endorsed a binding EU target of at least a 40% domestic reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030 compared to 1990, and will submit its contribution under the UNFCCC by the first quarter of 2015, in accordance with the timeline agreed at the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 19). The target is part of the 2030 Climate and Energy Policy Framework agreed by the European Council at its meeting on 23-24 October 2014.
