Event: Central American Workshop on Agriculture, Environment and Climate Change [viewed]

The Interamerican Institute for Cooperation on Agricuture (IICA), the Central American Agriculture Council (CAC), the French Institute of Central America (IFAC), France's French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and UNEP co-organized the workshop "Perspective of Central America Toward COP21". The morning session of the first day will be videocast on the web at http://www.iica.int/Esp/organizacion/LTGC/ForosTecnicos/Paginas/Foro3-2015.aspx#tabs4, while the rest will feature technical presentations by specialists, followed by panel discussions aimed at exchanging experiences and initiatives in the region aimed at adapting agriculture to climate change and mitigating the sector's greenhouse gas emissions.

World Environment Day 2015 Focuses on SCP [viewed]

WED 20155 June 2015: Celebrations and events took place around the globe on the occasion of World Environment Day (WED), which focused on the theme, ‘Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.' The theme encouraged consumers to rethink their lifestyles and decrease impacts on natural resources by making one change towards more responsible resource consumption and conscious consumer decision-making.

GEF Council Approves Largest Proposed Work Program in History of GEF Financing [viewed]

Participants at the 48th meeting of the GEF Council 4 June 2015: The 48th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council adopted the largest proposed Work Program in the history of GEF financing, involving a total of US$709 million of GEF Trust Fund resources, plus an indicative amount of US$4.81 billion in co-financing. The Work Program encompasses Integrated Approach Pilots (IAPs) on sustainable cities, food security in sub-Saharan Africa, and taking deforestation out of commodity supply chains, as well as other projects and programs.

Event: UNEP-SBCI and GI-REC Joint Symposium on Sustainable Buildings and Cities: Supporting Climate mitigation through resource efficiency [viewed]

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative (UNEP-SBCI) and the Global Initiative for Resource Efficient Cities (GI-REC) are organizing this joint symposium focusing on climate mitigation in the built environment. Hosted by ENERGIES 2050, the symposium will consider recent developments in international climate mitigation in the built environment, the role of role of cities and buildings in achieving greater resource efficiency, and lessons learned and financing opportunities for spurring broader action on resource efficient buildings and cities. Participants will also be introduced to the 10 Year Framework Programme (10YFP) on Sustainable Buildings and Construction.

WHO Updates Health and Climate Change Country Profiles [viewed]

WHO2 June 2015: The World Health Organization (WHO) provided an update on the development of WHO/UNFCCC country profiles during a side event at the Bonn Climate Change Conference. ‘Country Profiles for Health and Climate Change' focused on experiences of and lessons learned by the WHO European Country Office in developing the profiles, which aim to support the development of national adaptation plans.
