CIFOR9 June 2014: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) has released the report of the first Global Landscapes Forum. The report focuses on four themes: investing in sustainable landscapes, landscape policy and governance, synergies between climate change mitigation and adaptation, and landscapes for food security and nutrition.

Event: World Day to Combat Desertification Observance Event [viewed]

Heads of State and Government, Ministers, and representatives of intergovernmental organizations, the private sector and civil society will gather at World Bank Headquarters in Washington, DC, US, on Tuesday, 17 June 2014, for the global observance of the World Day to Combat Desertification. The event will address the theme 'Land Belongs to the Future – Let's Climate Proof It'. The full-day event include an opening ceremony, panel discussions, a concert, an exhibition and a film screening, among other activities. The event will also be webcast.

Event: Equator Prize Award Ceremony [viewed]

The Equator Prize Initiative will present awards to the 2014 Prize winners at a high-level ceremony at Lincoln Center in New York, US, on 22 September 2014, as a kick-off to the UN Secretary-General's Climate Summit. The Prize is awarded biannually to recognize and advance local sustainable development solutions for people, nature and resilient communities. The event will be hosted by the UN Development Programme (UNDP).

Ministers Discuss Durban Platform for Enhanced Action at Bonn Climate Change Conference [viewed]

climate-change-bonn-20146 June 2014: Ministers convened for the second day of the high-level ministerial on 6 June, as part of the June session of the UN climate change talks in Bonn, Germany, to discuss the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action. The dialogue provided an opportunity for ministers and other participants to discuss how to advance the implementation of actions with high mitigation potential and build the required confidence and momentum toward contributions under the Durban Platform.

G7 Declaration Highlights Energy Security, Climate Change, Sustainable Development [viewed]

g7-eu5 June 2014: The Presidents of the European Council and European Commission (EC) have gathered with leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US for a G7 Summit, during which they discussed issues related to Ukraine and global foreign policy issues, as well as energy, climate, economy and development, among others. The resulting Brussels G7 Summit Declaration addresses each of these issues and affirms the G7's commitment to “the values of freedom and democracy, and their universality and to fostering peace and security.”

Event: 17th Meeting of the Ocean Observations Panel for Climate [viewed]

The 17th meeting of the Ocean Observations Panel for Climate (OOPC-17) of the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) will convene to discuss: planning and reporting; implementation of the OOPC Work Plan, including consideration of the Tropical Pacific Observing System 2020 and Deep Ocean Observing Strategy; observing system requirements, design and evaluation; evaluating coastal observation requirements and implementation globally; and priorities and activities to progress in 2014-2016. The OOPC is a scientific advisory body of GOOS, which is sponsored by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (UNESCO-IOC), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and International Council for Science (ICSU).

Event: 35th Session of the Joint Scientific Committee for the World Climate Research Programme [viewed]

The 35th Session of the Joint Scientific Committee (JSC-35) for the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) will convene in Heidelberg, Germany to discuss the implementation of Grand Challenges, including Grand Challenges on: Regional Sea Level Rise; Water Availability; Cryosphere in a Changing Climate; Regional Climate Information; Climate Extremes; and Clouds, Circulation and Climate Sensitivity. The meeting will also discuss Core Projects, WCRP Councils, Working Groups, Partnerships and Joint Initiatives. JSC-35 will also hold a joint session with the WMO Technical Conference on Climate Services. WCRP is a joint project of the International Council for Science (ICSU), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (UNESCO-IOC).

Event: Policy Dialogue on Climate Change: Challenges and Opportunities for the Americas [viewed]

The Organization of American States (OAS) will host the 59th OAS Policy Roundtable, which will focus on the implications of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) for the Americas, including challenges and opportunities related to climate change mitigation and adaptation in the region.

Event: Tenth Meeting of the Carbon Fund (CF10) [viewed]

The Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) will consider Emission Reductions Program Idea Notes (ER-PIN) from Cambodia, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Peru, Republic of Congo and Viet Nam at the tenth meeting of the Carbon Fund. The meeting will also consider the Emission Reductions Program Document (ER-PD) template as well as the emission reductions buffer maintained by the FCPF.
