ESCAP, RIMES Warn Pacific Islands of Extreme Weather Risks [viewed]

unescap-rimes21 November 2014: Through a joint press release, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES) have warned that extreme weather conditions predicted for the Pacific Ocean pose a significant threat for the industry and infrastructure of island States, and encourages establishing a regional mechanism for better preparedness.

Canada Pledges Funding to GCF [viewed]

CANADA Flag21 November 2014: The Government of Canada has announced it will commit CAD$300 million to the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The announcement was made ahead of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC, to be held in Lima, Peru, in December 2014, and just after the first GCF pledging conference, which took place in Berlin, Germany, on 20 November 2014.

Netherlands Pledges 100 Million Euro to GCF [viewed]

Netherlands Flag14 November 2014: Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Lilianne Ploumen has announced that the Netherlands will contribute €100 million, or approximately US$125 million, to the Green Climate Fund (GCF). Commenting on the pledge, Ploumen and Dutch Environment Minister Wilma Mansveld underlined the "urgent need for action."

US, Japan Announce Pledges to the Green Climate Fund [viewed]

us-japan15 November 2014: The US has announced a US$3 billion pledge to the Green Climate Fund (GCF). US President Barak Obama made the announcement on the eve of the G20 Summit, which convened in Brisbane, Australia, from 15-16 November 2014. In a separate announcement, also on the margins of the G20 Summit, Japan said it would pledge US$1.5 billion. With these two announcements, the pledges received thus far by the GCF amount to US$7.5 billion.

UNFCCC Publishes Country Views on REDD+ Safeguard Information Systems [viewed]

UNFCCC6 November 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has compiled submissions received from developing country Parties on their views regarding information systems to track the implementation of safeguards for REDD+ (Decision 1/CP.16, Appendix I). The Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) asked parties to comment on their experiences, lessons learned and challenges in developing such systems.
