As CO2 Concentrations Top 400 ppm, WMO Warns Time is Running Out [viewed]

WMO26 May 2014: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) confirmed that atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations have crossed a new threshold, with April's monthly concentration topping 400 parts per million (ppm) throughout the northern hemisphere. While atmospheric carbon dioxide levels reached 400 ppm in April 2012, this record is the first time the monthly average did. The WMO predicts the global annual average carbon dioxide concentration will cross this threshold in 2015 or 2016.

UNEP, China Collaborate on Climate Change Adaptation [viewed]

UNEP10 May 2014: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and China will collaborate to enhance South-South cooperation on climate change adaptation, according to a high-level agreement endorsed by UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. Through the agreement, UNEP and China agree to harness their “strengths, capacities and resources” to assist countries in the Global South with the fight against climate change.

Zayed International Prize for the Environment Awards Announced [viewed]

zayed-prize7 May 2014: The Zayed International Prize for the Environment Award has been awarded to His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco in recognition of the efforts of the Prince Albert II Foundation to spur urgent action on climate change, biodiversity protection and water security. He received the Prize at a ceremony in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on 7 May 2014. At the event, two additional Zayed Prizes were awarded in each of the '2nd Category for Scientific and or Technological Achievement in Environment,' and in the '3rd Category for Environmental Action Leading to Positive Change in Society.'
