SE4ALL CEO Announces Departure [viewed]

Yumkella12 March 2015: The UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Sustainable Energy for All and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative has submitted his resignation to the members of the SE4ALL Advisory Board. Kandeh Yumkella, SE4ALL CEO since July 2013, stated in a letter to the Advisory Board that, while not an easy decision, he believes it is time to "go home to serve [his] people in Sierra Leone."

Switzerland Submits First INDC, Aims to Reduce Emissions 50% by 2030 [viewed]

flag switzerland27 February 2015: The Government of Switzerland has become the first party to the UNFCCC to announce its intended nationally determined contribution (INDC). The INDC states that the country will reduce emissions 50% below 1990 levels by 2030, with 30% of those reductions achieved within its borders. The remaining reductions may be attained via projects completed abroad, according to the contribution.

Hong Kong's Religious Leaders Urge Consensus on Climate Change [viewed]

23 January 2015: The six main religions of Hong Kong have released a joint, interfaith statement sounding the alarm on climate change. The statement emphasizes the impact climate change is having on weather, and consequently on famine, diseases and storms. The religious leaders express concern that the poor and vulnerable are and will be most impacted by the "potentially catastrophic consequences" of unabated carbon emissions.

Ban Ki-moon16 January 2015: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Janos Pasztor of Hungary as the first-ever UN Assistant Secretary-General on Climate Change. Pasztor will act as a Senior Adviser to Ban on climate change issues in the lead-up to the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC, to be held in December 2015, in Paris, France.

Celebrities Sign onto action/2015 Campaign, Urge Action on Climate and Poverty [viewed]
