13 March 2013: The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) have launched a global campaign on drought preparedness and risk management. The Campaign was inaugurated on 13 March, during the High-Level Meeting on National Drought Policy (HMNDP) in Geneva, Switzerland.
7 March 2013: The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) has announced that representatives of UN agencies, funds and programmes have agreed to the UN Plan of Action on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) for Resilience. The Plan will accelerate the integration of DRR into all UN country-level operations.
5 March 2013: Australia's Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency (DCCEE) and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) have launched an online public consultation on registry options for linking the Australian and European Union emission trading systems.
6 March 2013: A GCOS meeting took place recently in Offenbach, Germany, gathering experts to determine the kinds of climate observations needed for implementing climate adaptation activities. The German Meteorological Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst, DWD) hosted the gathering, which was jointly organized by the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS), the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
28 February 2013: A new five year Memorandum of Understanding between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) has been signed to help the FAO provide the CGIAR with advice on agricultural research priorities.
27 February 2013: In a keynote address delivered at the World Smart Energy Week in Tokyo, Japan, Maria van der Hoeven, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), has stated that the system-wide integration of clean and efficient energy technologies is essential in the transition to a sustainable and secure energy future.
27 February 2013: As part of the Decade of Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL), the UN has released a public service announcement video on CNN International and YouTube featuring former US Vice President Al Gore, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, and Director General of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and UN Special Representative for Sustainable Energy for All, Kandeh Yumkella.
28 February 2013: The Partnership on Sustainable, Low-Carbon Transport (SLoCaT), along with the Bridging the Gap (BtG) Initiative, presented a submission to the Ad-Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) in response to its request for input. The submission addresses the mitigation potential of the land transport sector through wide scale adoption of a new policy paradigm in the sector and implementation of the Voluntary Commitments on Sustainable Transport made at and after Rio+20.

26 February 2013: The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) reported on the impacts of the La Niña phenomenon in 2010-2011, which caused a massive ocean heatwave in the Indian Ocean, more than 10,000 km off of Australia's western coast.
